Does anyone take Selenium and if so have you found any benefit? Was reading an article earlier which suggested taking 200mg per day or eating Brazil nuts. I am not a fan of nuts!

India, selenium is supposed to be very good for the thyroid and other things. I eat Brazil nuts because I like them, I don't have a thyroid to support.

Selenium is very important for conversion of T4 to T3.

It also protects you from a flare-up when you have Hashimoto's and take iodine.

I eat a couple of Brazil nuts each day because I take so many drugs and supplements that it's nice to be able to take one pill less! Clemmie

Thanks everyone. Might give it a go then. Try anything once :-)

Hello India,

I supplement 100ug selenium every day.

Selenium helps to reduce inflammation, reduce thyroid peroxidase antibody levels and is essential for conversion of T4 to T3.

Selenium rich foods include Brazil nuts, cod, shrimp, tuna, halibut, chicken, eggs, lamb and turkey.

I take 200mg per day. My husband also - he was feeling very tired and when gp checked tsh he said it was fine, but the results were marked high by the lab! Thought we'd try just the selenium and on repeat blood tests, he was back in normal range.

I supplement with Selenium, and eat lots of tuna, chicken and some eggs. I love nuts, but sadly am now intolerant to them due to my Hashi's auto-immune disorder. I think Selenium is a great supplement along with zinc,iron,B12 etc Good luck and give it a go!

I have just purchased Biocare 100mcg selenium supplement to assist in conversion of T4 to T3. I take my Levothyroxine in the morning, how soon after can I take the selenium supplement? It would also be nice to know if anyone is getting good results with a particular brand of selenium and what dosage.

Thanks for your help.

I definitely found a difference in taking selenium. I took selenium ace for a while and didn't really know if it was the reason I felt better as other changes I had taken as well. So I stopped buying it. I became iller and I looked for a reason. It was when I thought maybe the selenium omission. So I bought it again and honestly within a few days to a week I felt back to previous wellness.

So yes a cynic like me recommends for hashimotos
