I was happy to see my friend back on the T3 again. And as I had posted my blood test results - back in, I think it was July (from a June test) , I spent a fortune on various supplements. These were the thyroid results from June.
tsh- 0.87 ( 0.50 - 5.00 )
Free Thyroxine - 13.1 ( 10.0 - 25.00 )
Free T3 - 4.6 ( 4.3 - 8.1 )
I feel a lot better by taking every pure expensive supplement going, and even tried kelp.
The iron food and 2 - 3 days a week iron pills helped a lot too.
And the 5-HTP has helped me to keep more or less off the zopiclone sleeping pills, and everything has helped with the depression which was getting really bad. But I have had to be extremely strict with what I eat.
I can now pinch my skin, The tachycardia is reduced ,the dizziness, and falling over are gone, (nothing to do with the smoking, drinking and glue sniffing BTW). Also the fat on my legs below my knees and the swollen arms are gone. I have lost a few pounds, though that could be muscle. The energy and motivation and cognition are much improved. I even laid an oak floor in 4 days without the tools! memory still not sufficient to remember where pull bar is...
And now for the interesting bit. As my temperature is dropplng along with the weather - I felt that I could easily get hypothermia again, especially as the chimney is collapsing,(my only source of heating now).
Someone saw me shivering in my winter woolies in warm weather, and gathered together some 160 0dd out of date T3's, and just gave them to me!
So I took about 5mcg today, They are 20mcg tablets, so probably mercury pharma.
I want to trial them to see if they suit, and also to see if my temperature goes up, but I am not really sure what to do exactly.
Your advice would be much appreciated, as I cannot get investigation or treatment, or know for sure if I have pituitary disfunction or something like say Wilson's syndrome.
Thanks.

What will you do when the 160 Liothyronine tablets run out?
TSH 0.87 and FT4 13.1 and FT3 4.3 are euthyroid (normal) but FT3 is very low in range so you may feel better with it higher. Results don't suggest secondary hypothyroidism (pituitary dysfunction).
I don't think 5mcg T3 will do much to improve your FT3 or symptoms. I would try 2 x 5mcg daily divided into 2 doses morning and bedtime initially to see how you tolerate it. See how you do and, if necessary, in a couple of weeks increase to 20mcg in 2 x 10mcg divided doses. Stick with 20mcg x 6-8 weeks and have a FT3 test to check FT3 remains <8.1 before increasing further. TSH will become suppressed <0.1 and FT4 will probably drop when you are taking T3.
I had just looked at the other posters options with T3 and decided to do exactly that.
I did not think I had secondary Hypo, but quite a few people did. But I did have the symptoms of hypo, and was told 15 years ago that I probably have Alzheimer's!
That was also what my late Mother was told. But she didn't have it. What she had was long standing P.A. ,IA ab, and folate deficiency and Myxoedema. She also had a very low metabolism and body temperature, along with Coeliac, which I also appear to have. Also my former Dr told me after I got high cholesterol and high BP about 12 years ago, when I started really going GAGA that she wanted to test my thyroid again, and she fully expected it to have completely packed up! she said it had been declining steadily for many years, but of course I was never given any results, until now. And only cos I asked.
I was only able to get my B12 levels up to a good level after a long time taking an expensive form of b12, and a shed load of supplements, of a kind that I can more easily absorb.
My theory was that as I had a lot of illnesses, including malnutrition, and infections which I had to diagnose myself! like severe secondary hyperparathyroidism, and was bedridden, and unable to absorb much of anything for a long time, that maybe I was experiencing a low functioning thyroid saturation on a cellular level, with hormones and other things in a kind of hibernation state.
There are some (mainly american DR's who claim to be able to get things going again with the short term use of T3.
I must admit though, I had no idea that someone that I hardly even know would suddenly out of the blue hand me a bottle of T3. They must be worth thousands LOL!
I gathered after i had the blood test results (not by a DR) that the results could be skewed because I took biotin the day before, among other things, and that the fasting 9am Blood levels could be even lower.
I will do as advised, and take it from there, when the trial T3 run out I will cross that bridge, and hopefully survive the cold winter. Should be interesting to see what happens.
It's fine to take biotin the day before blood tests. Abnormal rights can be obtained if biotin is taken on the day of blood tests but only only if the lab uses biotin in the analyses.
