Hi, my 17 daughter has hashimotos. I have taken advice from people on this site and encouraged her to be gluten free. I give her selenium with zinc everyday, and some iron because her ferritin was 46 (13 -150). My question is do i just give her the selenium continuously or should she take a break from it from time to time. Also how long should I give her the iron before having her retested.

advice on supplementing
Hi hustler,
Selenium, if in 200mg(mcg) should only be taken for 2 month, the most 3 month and then paused.
Iron as well, should be monitored, but as in the case of your daughter, her iron is 46 and it can be safely in midrange.
Iron and Vit D should be tested at least once a year for maintaining in the right range.
If your daughter hasn't got hashimotos, a safer dose of 100 would be better, in my opinion.
I am not a doctor, just a fellow sufferer.
Thank you.
She's so young! She may be able to reverse it. Read as much as you can by

Gluten is a catalyst for making hashimotos progress She has to eliminate it
Good luck and best wishes
I'd love to be 17 with the hopes of reversing it through lifestyle
Thank you so much for you reply. I have been looking into trying to reverse it. Shes was already vegetarian, before getting diagnosed this year. She takes all the supplements and is now gluten free, which is quite difficult to do when your a veggie. I am finding it hard to get her off other stuff like processed foods and sugar ( up hill struggle with a 17 year old). Hopefully she will be more pro active as she gets older. I will look into the links you sent me. Thanks again.
