Hi I was diagnosed underactive in 2011 and taking 100mcg levo but haven't felt well on this. I felt better on T3 but not completely so I think my answer is NDT. I would like to try NDT as a trial but endo will not prescribe it so do I buy it instead? Symptoms are not going away on levo or levo with T3. Thank you for reading

TSH 6.10 (0.2 - 4.2)

Free T4 12.4 (12 - 22)

Free T3 4.0 (3.9 - 6.8)

TPO antibodies 80.5 (<34)

Can you get a print-out of your recent blood test results with the ranges from your doctor with the ranges? This will help members to respond.

If you've not had recent ones ask GP to test TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. At the same time if you have not had the following for a while ask for these too:-

B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Post them on new post for answers.

Blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose and test and take afterwards. This helps give us, the patient, a better result.

You are very undermedicated.

TSH 6.10 (0.2 - 4.2)

Free T4 12.4 (12 - 22)

Free T3 4.0 (3.9 - 6.8)

TPO antibodies 80.5 (<34)

Your TSH should be 1 or below.

FT4 and FT3 are at bottom of the ranges instead of nearer the top.

You have an Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called Hashimoto's - the commonest form of hypothyroidism. It is so called because you have antibodies attacking your gland until you become hypothyroid.

Phone the surgery and request a prescription giving a 25mcg increase in levothyroxine.

You can say you've taken advice from the NHS Choices for help/advice on dysfunctions of the thyroid gland and due to your high TSH and low FT4 and FT3 you are undermedicated.

Follow instructions above, i.e. appointment at the earliest etc etc.

Doctors are poorly trained in that they appear to 'think' that anywhere within the range is fine, No it is NOT.

That's why we have to read, learn and ask questions otherwise we may get other serious illnesses due to insufficient hormones.

Endo says symptoms not thyroid and asked GP to look into symptoms and GP has diagnosed me with stress and anxiety

The stress and anxiety you have is being caused by your GP and Endo who are leaving you undertreated. A TSH of 6.10 is not even within range! No wonder you feel ill. So many people are being told by their GP's they have stress or anxiety when in fact they are being incorrectly treated for they thyroid condition. You'll read it time and again on here.

You have thyroid antibodies. Has your GP or Endo told you that you have autoimmune thyroid disease otherwise known as Hashimotos? There is a good explanation of Hashimotos thyroiditis on Thyroid UK's website.

You probably also need to have your vitamin levels tested because many of us have low nutritional levels when we have thyroid conditions and being hypothyroid for a while won't have helped.

Whatever type of thyroxine medicine you take, you need your TSH level to be near to 1.0 or even a little lower and FT3 and FT4 to be near to the top of the range.

Hi well I felt best but not fully well on 175mcg levo and 10mcg T3 and despite my endo saying I have a clinical need for T3 it has been stopped so now I don't know what to do. I have results of vits and mins already thanks

Well your Endo should not have stopped your T3 but you probably know there is a national controversy over prescribing T3 medication and a Government consultation ongoing at the moment. You might want to sign the petition and documents on the right of this page to voice your concerns.

In the meantime, if it were me I would increase my levothyroxine so at least I was not undermedicated on LT4. That will buy you time to decide what you want to do. If you post your vitamin results in a separate post people will make helpful suggestions.

Hi I signed the petition, endo just says my using of T3 is dangerous and he doesn't support using that or NDT or armour because there is no proof either work. I was disappointed.

So was this a different endo from one who originally said you needed it?

If you have Hashimoto's then hidden food intolerances may be causing issues, most common by far is gluten
