This article claims that large doses of B6 and/or B12 can cause cancer in males.

I have read about this , but I have understood that B12 for example does not cause cancer, but can cause the underlying cancer to spread faster. Same goes with iron.

This article is talking about huge doses of B6 and of B12. Much more than people would normally take for a deficiency. If you are within the lab range for vitamin B12 when you get a blood test after supplementing then that indicates you're within safe parameters I would have thought.

I don't use large doses myself, however, some of the dosages I see at my health food store, and at online supplement stores, are huge!

Eddie83,

Apparently only in male smokers.

That would fit in with the theory from another comment: high doses don't cause cancer, they just encourage cancer if it is present. The article said nothing about the strength of the immune system in those who got cancer, which is what I would like to see.

Eddie83,

It might be worth posting it on PAS forum for discussion.

Hi and thanks, Eddie83 . I've been doing some reading about supplements and prostate cancer. I wasn't surprised to learn about vitamin D3 deficiency and prostate cancer, but I was surprised by the research associating prostate cancer with high levels of folate and B12. I'm not characterising the quality or interpretation of the research, as I'm just making my way through it, but here are some links if you're interested. (I'm also duly noting the crucial role of B12 in many physiological processes and its protective role wrt other cancers! :))
