Hi all doc has just rang and said that i would need to take the beta blockers regardless and also said if i wanted a copy of my results of all tests then i would need to do it formally by writing a letter but then said it doesnt matter what the readings are the outcome is still the same!! Rude. Asked about if i could start a low dose of carbimazole he said primary care does not prescribe those meds it is the endoc specialist.

GPs can prescribe but I'm guessing he's out of his depth so wants to wait for an Endo to give him instructions. If you are worried about taking the Beta Bs ask your local Pharmacist for advice.

If your heart is going too fast beta-blockers could help you in the meantime until you see an Endo.

Write your formal letter requesting copies in future of all your blood test results, with the ranges..

When we are struggling with health problems, we really want everything else to be simple and easy. Not so it seems as obstacles keep popping up whether we want them or not :)

Rmichelle,

Do write to the practice saying you would like a copy of your recent thyroid results and ranges and results and ranges for future blood tests. The Data Protection Act entitles patients to their results and you don't have to say why you want them.

Rmichelle,

You should also ask when you will be able to access your records on-line.

The NHS itself says:

You have a legal right to apply for access to your medical records. You do not need to give a reason.

Perhaps one appropriate response would be "Why are you collecting data on reasons without need or explanation? This contravenes Data Protection legislation." Other responses are rather more blunt and suited to a gutter.

'then said it doesnt matter what the readings are the outcome is still the same!!'

That doesn't make any sense. Of course the outcome is decided by the readings. How else would he know you're hyper? I find that comment very suspicious. Sounds like he's hiding something and doesn't want you to find out.

Hello there im hyper, he did say something like it doesnt matter whether youre reading is 400 or 100 it is still the same.

Ah, ok, I see what he means. Even so... I still think you need to see them, and I still find that remark evasive and suspicious.

Yes, I did correct 'hypo' to 'hyper'. Realised my mistake as soon as I'd submitted my reply! :D
