Hi,
I have Hashimoto's (almost 5 years now) and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I've had 3 infections this year where I've ended up in the hospital and no-one can find the source of the infection. I'm also constantly fatigued. I was wondering if it could be anything to do with my thyroid?? I'm a 62-year-old female.
Here are my latest results:
Serum TSH level 0.29 mIU/L (0.35-5.30 U)
Serum free T4 level 18.3 pmol/L (9 - 20 U)
These are the only tests my doctor does regarding my thyroid.
I'm currently taking 120mg Levothyroxine.
My doctor says he is not concerned about the slightly high TSH of 0.2 (I can't convert the different measurements). He says there is no evidence of harm above a TSH of 0.2, indeed there is some evidence that keeping TSH in the lower half of the reference range, e.g, aiming for a TSH of 1.5 or less does help subjective wellbeing in the proportion of patients with underactive thyroid treatment.
Are my results OK?
Should I ask for a referral to an endocrinologist?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Fiona
