Core biopsy of thyroid node tomorrow...

Last Friday I had a FNA procedure on the 2 lumps in my neck, this wasn't sufficient apparently and now have to have a core biopsy. Bit worried about it as ths FNA was agony as I didn't get a local anaesthetic! Has anyone else had one?

Why didn't you get given a local anesthetic? That sounds sadistic. (I have no experience of what you've had done, so have no idea of what is standard practice.)

I hope you get more compassionate treatment tomorrow.

Whatever happens, good luck, hope it goes well, and you get the outcome you hope for. :)

Radiologist said that the local stings more than the FNA itself. Then proceeded to stick 3 seperate needles in 3 sites. The nodule was so hard it was bending his needle! It was excruciating. I'm going to ask for some kind of sedative beforehand tomorrow.

Wow. :O I hope they agree to a sedative!

Lindsaydawson,

I had core biopsy done at the same time as FNA. It's just a less fine needle to take larger samples. Neither was painful so I'm pretty sure I had local anaesthetic. Ask for it tomorrow, not that you should have to ask.

I had a FNA too - bit spooky but no anaesthetic or pain, mind you I've had worse...

best wishes :D

Had the biopsy done this morning, the local was ok and the main event was mainly a pushing and twisting feeling. Two samples of tissue were taken, I hope that's enough because I don't think I could go through it again!

Results!!

All tests inconclusive, lymph node nodules "highly suspicious" - back to clinic on Monday to see head honcho, Mr Nicolaides, for yet more tests.
