Fibroids and under active thyroid

Have recently been for an ultrasound and been told I have several fibroids some quite large which have been affecting my periods and making them last weeks and be really heavy too. My doctor upped my thyroxine by 25mcg every other day so I am now on 150mcg a day been doing this since May. My question is can the increase in dose be the reason why my periods have gone back to normal? Or is it just co-incidence?

It's not really a big increase in dose but I have been feeling generally more tired and struggling to get up which never is normally a problem. Could the Increase being affecting how I feel? Had bloods tests in June, see previous post but I don't think it was accurate as up all night before blood test so may have affected result, they now won't re-test until September as it's not been 3 months. I'm frightened if I drop the dose slightly it'll make the mad periods come back. Sorry for long post.

The body is a complete system and I did read in a few places (unfortunately can't remember where) plus several posts in this forum that mentioned having sufficient thyroid hormones for you means the fibroids actually either go away or shrink. It also well know that one of the symptoms of under treated or insufficient treat hypothyroidism is heavy periods.

So yes it is likely the increased dose of levo has sorted out your periods plus caused the fibroids to start shrinking.

I'm not sure if you are working or can afford it but you can private tests done through Medichecks or Blue Horizons. Both companies use NHS labs as these labs make money by doing private work. They do finger prick tests for some thyroid tests which you can do at home and post off. Medichecks has Thursday offers while Blue Horizon have random offers. Best to sign up on their websites and they will email when they have offers. The real reason to do private tests is to find out if you Hashimotos as the NHS doesn't do the antibody tests for everyone, and to see what your free T3 level is as again the NHS rarely does this test.

Thank you for you reply Bluebug, I am working so will look into having tests done privately if I can afford it. I'm waiting for a emergency appt (since June! Still waiting!) to discuss having fibroids removed by a myoctomy op I think my doctor said as if poss at 42 is still like the chance to have children. Currently on day 38 of cycle which I've had happen a couple of times over last few months with no sign of period up to 50 days between being the longest, so wonder if I'm perimenopause and that's why my periods are erratic either all or nothing! Just wondered if I dropped the dose again to 125mcg one day and 150mcg the next as I was in if it will stop me feeling so tired or does only a 25mcg increase every other day not make much difference, been in 150mcg for nearly 4 months now and not sure if it's helping me or not apart from the periods sorting self out but then that's only been a couple of months and it could be nothing to do with the increase in thyroxine just the fibroids not playing up at mo. Sorry again for long post, I'm at my wits end with what to do, feeling really low and just think what's the point to it all at the mo. I'm always going to be fat, feel bloated, tired, hot at night and now sweating during even the slightest exertion during the day such as carry a few boxes up the stairs with sweat dripping off me.
