Hi can anyone tell me if my tsh of 0.5 is low enough to be offered treatment I've got yet another hospital appointment today , and I'm not holding out much hope as my doctor said the range was 0.4 - 4.9 and that even though I'm on the low end of the range I'm still in range so my test is normal ..

Tsh result help
Hi Rach155. Welcome to the forum.
Do you have any other test results, such as Free T3 and Free T4? Post them on here with the ranges (numbers in brackets).
TSH is not a very helpful test. Free T3 is the active hormone.
You also need to have antibodies tested and vitamins and minerals. See if you can get more tests done by the hospital and make sure you get a printout of the results.
If you've been looking on here you will have found that 'in range' and 'normal' are not the same as 'optimal'.
If you want more info do look at the Thyroid UK website
I agree with Anthea55 that you need your other results to be able to put the TSH into context first. Also agree with her points on T3.
Also, if you haven't already done so, could I ask you to read and sign this petition to help stop the withdrawal of T3 from the NHS? If be super grateful.
Hi thank you for your reply , I have just come out of my appointment and apparently My thyroid is fine , my lastest results from the hospital are
T3 4.9 - pmol/L 2.6-5.7
T4 10.9- pmol/L 9.0-19.0
TSH 0.43 -mu/L 0.4-4.9
Consult wanted to discharge me but has said he will do the Tsh T3 & T4 again , just had it done and will await results 🙁
Hmmm, if you have symptoms of hypothyroidism it could be secondary/central hypothyroidism - low TSH and low FT4 - meanign that your brain can't produce enough TSH to raise your Ft4 even though there is nothing wrong with your thyroid, but I doubt they'll do anything until your FT4 drops under range. Really, with a TSH that low your Ft4 should be about 18
Are you thinking you are hypothyroid or hyperthyroid ? A few more details and results would help members advise you.
Hi everyone , sorry for the lack of info this morning,
Long story short...
I've been suffering with symptoms for years and seem to have had most tests going but I'm still hitting a brick wall when it comes to diagnosis...

Tsh 4.3 (Feb 17) 0.5 (July 17) (range 0.4-4.9)
T3 4.9 (2.6 -5.7)
T4 10.9 (9.0-19.0)
Fibromyalgia
Psoriasis
Also gone deaf in one ear with no explanation found
Palpitations
Swollen thyroid
Heavy periods/shorter cycle
Constantly head ache
There are a lot more but can't think of top of head ..
Come out of appointment wondering if I'm barking up the wrong tree , so I'd be keen to know what you honestly think.
Doctor basically saying I could have anxiety/depression 🙁😡
I also smoke and drink red bull all day to give me energy & keep me awake , so was wondering if this could alter the test results.
