sorry this is a bit of a double post as i have previously posted but did not have the correct information. I have my thyroid tests back and this is what they are
serum free t4 level 9.7 pmol/L
range 10-18.7
serum tsh level 5.7 miu/L
range 0.3-5.0
Vitamin d 25-oh-vitamin d 31.06mmol
range 50-250
Ive no idea what this means ive just typed it as the receptionist wrote it down.
Symptoms have been for just over two years since giving up smoking, extreme fatigue, depression, severe anxiety, 2 1/2 stone weight gain, despite improving my eating habits drastically and doing a more physical job. Complete lack of sex drive, zero interest, (my poor partner has been very patient bless him). palpitations, dizzyness when standing up or sitting down especially if done quickly. stiff joints, particularly hands and feet, had tests for rheumetism, nothing new found. Psoriasis has flared, even the sun hasnt improved it like it has in the past. Im basically just a zombie, trudging through life resenting the absolute state of my house as i just havent got the energy to work and take care of home like i used to.
i hope those results make sense to someone here, thank you in advance

whilst ive been sat here ive been looking at various books on low thyroid, has anyone heard of or read any books by someone called Barry Durrant Peatfield? The reviews on his book seem really positive. I looked at stop the thyroid madness but whilst people were saying it was a good book it was geared more at those living in america, so i dont know what to choose. Im just really at rock bottom and desperate to understand whats happening to me before i end up losing my job or worse...thanks in advance x
I have seen Dr Peatfield & he helped me immensely. I am considering going back to see him and perhaps my daughter. He is based in the London area, google him and you will find out. If you can I would go and see him. He is a very knowledgeable man.
Dr P's book is a very good read, written in a way the patient can understand. Lots of information. And as he is hypo himself he has a real understanding of how we feel.
Thanks for the replies, i have just ordered his book and the way i feel right now, i will find the money to go and see him. Absolute rock bottom with this, i just feel like im being silently judged as lazy. Back to the doctors in the morning where i suspect he will be clueless in comparison to the good people on here and try and dump the levo on me again. Does anyone have a better understanding of those results now i have the range numbers by any chance?
Sorry if i sound like a pest im just trying to be clued up for my app tomorrow so i dont get talked down to xx
Vit D really low is GP giving you heavy doses for 6 weeks and then retest? That's what I'm doing at moment and am feeling slightly better have also just started T3. You dont say if you are medicated? The results for T4 show hypothyroidism as they are below the ranges they should be. Your TSH is too high if medicated then ideally around one definitely below 2. I'm sure one of the more experienced on here will give you more info. I think you need meds or raise meds then retest.
I'm not currently medicated. I was briefly on 50 mcg of Levo last year but felt horrendous, sweating, waking up in the night erratic heart which made me anxious etc. I didn't even make it through the first six weeks on it, I'd had enough. What ive read about Levo since hasn't given me any confidence in it all.
Vit d was a test I had to argue for, but the reason I asked for it was thanks to researching and reading lots of the posts on here. I've bought some vit d k3 spray so after I've seen the dr this morning I'm going to probably start using that unless he says otherwise .
Your problem with the medication may have been the fillers-a allergic reaction. Tablets have fillers in them to bulk them up and also to make you stable. I'm sure you will need to take them again. It if so try a different brand than before. If again you have problems continue but take an antihistamine an hour before and if that stops it it is the fillers. The pharmacist should then be able to suggest another make. Once you find one that suits then get it added to your notes in both the surgery and the pharmacy.
If that isn't the reason you may have to take a lower dose abs go more slowly to get your body used to it.
Thank you for the reply, am just about to set off for the dr appointment, will let you know what he says when i get back. But will mention what you have said about the fillers.
So, in fairness he did listen. Im getting a prescription for vitamin d capsules, but i dont know what strength yet because he said he has to work it out. Hes also prescribing levothyroxin again but this time at a smaller dose of 25mcg to start me off then look to gradually up it after each blood test. He did say that if i had the same reaction this time i should stop taking it straight away make another appointment and he would get me a referal to someone more knowledgeable.
I'm so nervous about taking it again, last time i was on my own with my three year old feeling like i was going to die (dramatic i know) and she would wake up and thered be no one there for her.
