You are under-medicated. The aim of thyroid hormone replacement is to get your TSH down to one or under. But, you're not going to lose weigh unless your FT3 is optimal, and you won't know that unless it's tested. You need your FT4 and FT3 tested at the same time, to see if you are converting correctly. :)

Hi thankyou so much for your reply!

I was advised to ask for T4/T3, anti TPO and Anti TH and endocrinologist refused - said if Id thyroid removed bloods would be done as a tumour marker πŸ™„ .. He didn't think my weight was an issue - though I'm into obese category!! Also I felt Taft taking 100mg was causing heart/neck palpitations so he agreed to lower Levi to 75mg .. when all classic symptoms first began I was a wreck though I'd other health issues i.e. Major surgeries, menopause +++ I'm trying to heal my body as naturally as possible but still don't feel right..... this is so frustrating

Palpitations can also be a symptom of low thyroid. I don't think your endo has the slightest idea what he's doing! Decreasing your dose is just going to make you more hypo, you needed an increase in dose! Going down to 75 mcg is just going to make your symptoms worse.

You were right, and your silly (dangerous?) endo was wrong, you do need FT4, FT3 and TPO antibodies tested - don't know what anti TH is. But, being so ignorant, your endo wouldn't be able to interpret them, anyway. If I were you, I'd have a private test, getting :

TSH

FT4

FT3

TPOab

TgAB

vit D

vit B12

folate

ferritin

All these need to be optimal, not just 'in range'. And, you need a new endo! :(

SusieWanβ€’ in reply togreygoose

Again thank you so much!! - I will have them done privately -definitely ! The TH was my typing error πŸ™ˆ i.e. Tg antibodies will let you know what the outcome is asap... actually at a time my VIT d levels where below 25 !! Only I asked for them to be done God only knows where it would of gone! He gave 800 iu a day! I bought my own and last tested was up to 90...

Yes, doctors have little idea about nutrients.

The NHS never tests for Tg antibodies, and very rarely for FT3, so it's not surprising he didn't do them. But, he should have done FT4 and TPOab. The fact that he didn't, shows what a rotten endo he is! The TSH tells him very little, and the little it's telling him, he isn't understanding. You needed and increase in dose.

Greygoose,

Nothing surprises me anymore with NHS 😟 I will aim to have those tests done privately asap! Much appreciated will update you asap..

When were these done?

They're ok as far as they go, but give no indication how well you are converting T4 to T3.

SusieWan profile image
SusieWanβ€’ in reply togreygoose

Yes they won't do the T3 and others that you recommendedso I'm gona aim to go private .. hard getting my head around everything with other health issues needing addressed also. Thanks again ! Wish me luck 😟

You don't have to have a private endo to have private blood tests. Details of private blood tests can be found on the thyroid UK main page.

SusieWan,

You are undermedicated to have TSH 2.23 while taking 100mcg Levothyroxine.

The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.3 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email enquiries@thyroiduk.org if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

SusieWan,

Don't know why endo is talking about tumours and cancer markers since you don't have thyCa and not having thyroidectomy is no reason not to test FT4, FT3, TPOab and TgAb.

You can't heal your thyroid. You need to take sufficient Levothyroxine to replace the thyroid hormone you are lacking. Being undermedicated is likely to increase weight gain and make it impossible to reduce weight.

Thank you...

Any recommendations as to where I can get all necessary bloods done privately? Is there a reputable company Online?
