I'm hashis and been on low does armour for probably 5 months. Stopped it, now on 25 mcg levothyroxine. I'm having heart palps/flip flops. Is this because I've been on a low dose for way too long? I always fear increasing because of the heart thing. Scares me to death! Doc said she's gonna keep me hypo for a short time and then test me. I just wish the palps would leave!! Maybe I should ask her if I should go up to 50 mcg?. So stressed over all this!😰
Hashis, levothyroxine. : I'm hashis and been on... - Thyroid UK
Hashis, levothyroxine.
I'd increase to 50mcg as that is the usual starting dose. Palpitations can be due to too little thyroid hormones or too much, but 25mcg is certainly not too much.
Our brain and heart need the most T3 I think that's why many feel brain-fog and heart struggles to pump if too low a dose. What dose of Armour were you taking?
Was on 1/4 grain armour.
That is also an extremely low dose, around 25mcg levo. Do you have a heart condition that the doctor prescribes such a low dose?
When we take NDT, we start on a small dose and then every week or two increase by a small amount until we feel well.
Thyroid cancer patients have to have a suppressed TSH but they don't drop dead taking thyroid hormone replacements otherwise they wouldn't be prescribed.
A popular doctor (deceased) said that nowadays we are given far too low a dose. Before blood tests came in the usual doses were around 200 to 400mcg.
Everything in our body struggles if we have too low thyroid hormones circulating. That's why they prescribe it. It is needed to run everything in our bodies.
Heart problems are common with too low a dose of thyroid meds. You need more. Increase to 50mcg Levo per day for 5 - 6 weeks and then get blood tests done.
I would be surprised if 50mcg of Levo is enough. It would be considered a starter dose by most people.
The MHRA keeps records of side effects of drugs reported to them. They have records on Levothyroxine going back to 1967 i.e. 50 years of data. Millions of people have taken Levothyroxine for many years.
Do you know how many deaths there have been as a result of the millions and millions of Levo pills that have been taken in 50 years?
13
For multi-constituent meds like Armour Thyroid there have been

For Liothyronine there have been

I will freely admit that the data won't be complete. But after 50 years there should be some indication that thyroid meds are dangerous (if they were). So I don't think you should worry too much about taking Levo or any other kinds of thyroid meds.
I agree with everyone else - my heart only 'flip-flops' on too low a dose
