I take one 50 mcg & one 25mcg so total of 75mcg Levothyroxine every morning. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis many years ago. My Thyroid function blood test in August this year came back as Serum free T4 15.4 pmol/L {9-24} Free T4. Serum TSH level 0.92 mU/L [0.35-5] TSH ,U/L. The GP says this is adequate. I take a lot of other medication for a severe heart condition. Perhaps it's the heart medication that's making me feel so tired rather than the low dose of Thyroxine.
Levothyroxine : I take one 50 mcg & one 25mcg so... - Thyroid UK
Levothyroxine
Welcome to the Thyroid Forum
TSH 0.92 mIU/L (0.35 - 5) 12.3%
Free T4 (fT4) 15.4 pmol/L (9 - 24) 42.7%
As I've mention on another post your fT4 is too low and suggested getting a private full thyroid panel, if you have any recent results for folate, ferritin, B12 and Vit D please add them...
I'm hoping someone knowledgeable about thyroid and heart meds will jump in
Thank you for replying. You suggested I start a new post. On the blood test results I don't see folate, ferritin, B12 or Vit D mentioned unless they are called something else in the results. What is on the results for blood is; Platelet count = 181. Mean corpusc haemoglobin = 30. Mean corpuscular volume = 93.7. Haematocrit = 0.403. Haemoglobin estimation = 129. Red blood cell count = 4.3. Total white cell count = 5.9. GFR = 56. Albumin = 38. As you will realise I know nothing about blood test results.
Unfortunately I'm not able to get to the companies that you mentioned.
Thank you for your help, very much appreciated. 🙂
Well worth requesting these are tested by your GP then, the ones above look ok but then I'm using my area NHS ranges which may differ
Yes they were done by the nurse at the GP surgery.
Worth requesting folate, ferritin, B12 and Vit D too
Are there no private postal blood test companies in your area?
I shall put a shout out to arTistapple who may have researched the heart med side of things
Never heard of that. When I've to have another blood test I will ask if they will include Folate, Ferritin. B12 & Vit D. Don't know if the NHS will do this though.
They are standard blood tests so shouldn't be an issue, you could say that Thyroid UK recommend monitoring them alongside thyroid hormone levels, but what you really need is to request a 'trail' increase in your T4 as it is so low
What I can't understand is the Thyroid last year's result was T4 : 15.6 & TSH: 0.45 but this year's result is T4: 15.4 & TSH: 0.92. So how is there a big difference in the TSH results but not much difference in the T4 results? I wonder should there not be a bigger difference in the T4 results like the TSH results has a bigger difference?
Hello TiggerMe, Just to let you know that thanks to you I phoned the GP this morning and he is increasing the Levothyroxine from 75mcg to 100mcg . Even although he said my result is within the guidelines. I've to have a blood test in about 4 - 6 weeks as he doesn't want me to become Hyperthyroid. I just hope this works. Many thanks again. Have a good weekend. 💐
