Where to get Armour: Could anyone give me advice... - Thyroid UK
Where to get Armour
I also need this information..tho a needle in a haystack is reckon.
Welcome to the forum, Kathy117 and MySpirit .
NDT isn't licensed for UK use so it is very rarely prescribed on NHS.
Members are more likely to share sources when new members provide a little background information about their condition including recent thyroid results and ranges and current dose of Levothyroxine.
Be aware that Armour is the most expensive NDT brand and other brands may work just as well.
MySpirit, it would be better for you to write your own post/request.
I don't know where you can get Armour, sorry. I did want to say though, that Armour is a brand name for a type of product referred to as Prescription Dessicated Thyroid or Natural Dessicated Thyroid (NDT).
There are several other brands and makes of NDT around. You can find a list here :
stopthethyroidmadness.com/a...
I'm not sure if that page is up-to-date or if it is a complete list. I would be surprised if it was either, but I could be wrong.
Armour is the most expensive brand of NDT in the world and as far as I know it always requires a prescription.
The 3 kinds of NDT from Thailand are a) very popular, b) cheap compared to products like Armour, c) reliable as long as your supplier is reliable, and d) don't require a prescription.
Thank you very much, Ive had an under active thyroid for around 25 years, im currently on 200mg of levothryoxine, I am also taking a total of 33 tablets a day, mostly pain killers but also heart tablets, I have tremendous pain in my knee and hip joints, I've put my memory somewhere but forgot where. Although last year I lost 5 stone ( obviously needed to) but I've started to put it back on, I'm constantly exhausted... I just want my life back xx
Kathy117,
As you have heart issues you need to be very careful that FT3 remains within range because high FT3 can trigger atrial fibrillation.
200mcg Levothyroxine is equivalent to 3 grains (180mg) NDT. Usual advice is to start on 1/2 grain (30mg) NDT to see how you tolerate T3 in it and then to increase dose in 1/2 grain increments at 2 week intervals until optimally dosed. You will become very hypothyroid if you start at 1/2 grain so I would advise you reduce Levothyroxine by 37.5mcg - 50mcg for every 1/2 grain NDT you introduce.
Thank you for everyone help and advice, fingers crossed I will soon get sorted x
You may have vitamin deficiencies, these are extremely common - have you had vitamin D, folate, B12 & ferritin tested. Always get actual results including ranges
Do you have Hashimotos- autoimmune thyroid- high antibodies
If you have Hashimotos then often going gluten free can help significantly
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take any thyroxine in 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after blood tests
