Having T3 blood test in UK!

Saw my new GP this morning and asked about T3 as I don't feel 100% after years of being on Levothyroxine, she booked me in for a blood test without question, I was most surprised, will see what the results are are and go from there'll, if it's fine at least I'll know and can look into other things.

My gp asked a few times as did the nurse doing blood draw ..it never came back done though !My gp said she had questioned why and was told it was an unecessary test! (AS IF!!!!)Last couple of times however the lab did test for it even though it hadn't been requested...I think this was because my T4 was that low it wasn't even within the labs range....I think this must be the criteria in that they only decide to test for it if they see the t4 isn't right?....hopefully you manage to get it done!

Even if the GP requests it the lab may refuse to do it - often the GP has to write either "taking T3" or "suspected secondary hypothyroidism" to get the lab to do it.

I had the test and the results were normal 4.2, have to say I was a bit disappointed as I thought this might be the answer, oh well back on another pointless diet.

Fyreflye, don't stop there. I've been on Levo for 8 yrs feeling very hypo. Many here will tell you 'normal' means squat very often. Can you post your results with ranges ? Perhaps as a new post to make it current. My pre T3 results were close to normal but I certainly wasn't and I kept pushing with me GP. I feel massively fortunate as I have finally been prescribed T3 6 weeks ago - and now with T4 & T3 I feel So good ! (And how crazy is it that 'so good' for us hypos is normal life for others.)

Keep plugged in here - and fight for your own good health.

Thanks, it's so frustrating, rather than treat by symptoms they treat you by numbers. I'll have a hunt for my results, recently moved surgery and my notes are are still floating around in the ether somewhere. I'm also low in iron so that doesn't help and iron tablets are evil to take.

I'm glad you got yourself sorted finally, I will keep trying but they make you feel like a hypochondriac if you keep asking, not that that will stop me 😀
