Hi there,

Just got myself some vit d to take, when is the best time to take, and does it need to be with or without food, just found out I do have hashi, but think I knew that from all the responses I got when 1st posted on here, it's a good forum everyone is so nice and helpful and I think I kept my sanity coming on this website 🙂

I was told to take mine with heaviest meal of the day after food. The fat in the food helps you absorb it

Hypo51 - what dose D3? Have you got softgels which include some oil, usually olive oil?

Have you also got D3's important cofactors to take vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

These are the softgels I think are very good quality and value bodykind.com/product/2463-b...

10mcg D3 = 400iu and that is nowhere near enough. It isn't even a maintenance dose for someone who has a good level, a maintenance dose is usually 1000iu to 2000iu.

The recommended level of Vit D is l100-150nmol/L according to the Vit D Council. You say your level is 48nmol, so you need a decent dose to bring your level up and my suggestion is to take 5000iu for 8 weeks then retest using City Assays vitamindtest.org.uk/index.html and when you've reached the recommended level reduce to a maintenance dose, I would suggest 5000iu alternate days to start with then retest after 6 months. Retesting should be done once or twice a year to stay within the recommended range.

You need to take the cofactors linked to in my previous post.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day. If you use softgels containing olive oil you can get away with taking it with something like a full fat yogurt. Take D3 four hours away from thyroid meds.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

Check out the other cofactors too.

For any supplements, stay away from Boots/Supermarket/Holland & Barrett own brand, they're cheap for a reason - usually using the cheapest and least absorbable form of ingredients. Buy decent brands with good bioavailable ingredients.

Thanks susie, there is so much to try to remember, I'm not very good with these matters, them softgels have d3 in the name so is it just them I should take along with k2 and magnesium? Sorry I don't mean to sound stupid.

Yes, you can buy those D3 softgels.

If you want a recommendation for decent K2-MK7 softgels (fat soluble like D3 but containing olive oil again) these two are my suggestions

bigvits.co.uk/product.php?p... - good value for 180 or if you can only afford 60 then bigvits.co.uk/product.php?p... or

bigvits.co.uk/product.php?p...

Magnesium depends on what will suit best. Lots of us use magnesium citrate, helps with constipation if you have a problem in that area. I use Natural Calm mag citrate powder -original - and make a drink with orange juice.

Thank you for all the links and information, which I have noted, I need to get some of these, I have a endo app end of august is it worth self medicating before I go or wait until I've been seen, I don't hold out much hope with the endo as most say they're no better than gps.

Once again thanks for the info and all the tips, I will def be getting the recommendations.

Most doctors, whatever rank, appear to know very little, if anything, about vitamins and minerals so won't know that we Hypos need optimal levels rather than just 'in range'. I don't see any need to delay starting them. Personally, I wouldn't even be discussing them unless they bring the subject up or are testing you anyway.

Start supplements one at a time, giving a week or two before adding the next one, that way if there are any adverse reactions then you will know what caused it.

Yes I have heard that, I'll start the vit d 1st then and see how I go, hopefully I'll be ok no reaction. Thank you so much.
