Parathyroid results! Does anyone understand them please.

Hi these are my dads result from a blood test that was taken on Wednesday. I know it says we have to speak to a doctor. But does anyone understand it please as some of the reading say they are to high.

High parathyroid hormone (PTH) and normal to high calcium indicates primary hyperparathyroidism which is usually caused by a benign adenoma on one or more of the 4 parathyroid glands.

I had similar results over a year ago and had parathyroid adenoma removed, your gp will probably refer you to see an endocrinologist who is likely to arrange for a sestamibi scan and ultrasound to confirm hyperparathyroidism, are you suffering any symptoms such as bone pains, loss of hair, low vitamin D etc.?

Aah vitamin D is what my dad was lacking in, the doctor was given him anyway him 4000ml of vitamin D. And told us to get a blood test now, (hence the blood test results) take the vitamins D once a week for four weeks and repeated the blood test again and make a phone call or see a doctor within 5 weeks. We receive a letter to make a telephone call with a doctor sooner. One problem he is a 76 year old man. And has had stage 3 cancer of the Oesophageal as well. And is doing better now.

4000 a week doesn't sound very much. Not sure about the ml though. It is normally measured in iu's which is international units. If his vit d is low then 10000 would be better taken every day. I am not medically trained.
