Just wondering if anyone could advise me on the best place to go to test for Estrogen Dominance? I have had a look at a few private testing labs, but getting really overwhelmed!
I am only 32 and due to anorexia, I hadn't had a period for over 10 years, until they came back last year. Since then they have been all over the place. Really irregular, sometimes 1 every 2 months, or one coming within two weeks of the last, also extremely heavy & very painful. My last period, I actually lost for 3 weeks straight! I asked the question on here if it could be related to my thyroid, and was told it could be.
So now I really want to get to the bottom if what could be wrong. my GP isn't interested, she just said as long as they don't stop again, then I shouldn't worry!! (!!!!!) So having to go privately for some answers, so as always, all advice & help is very gratefully received.

Maybe this one? bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/f... I think it's true that trouble with periods can be related to thyroid trouble but yours seems quite extreme... I'm thinking it may just be part of your recovery but I don't know... I would say give it chance to settle and if it's ongoing you really have to push to get them to check you out. I'm pretty sure conditions like endometriosis and thyroid trouble are linked and that can cause heavy and painful periods. You an check the endometriosis forum on healthunlocked... it's quite good
I would also add that if you do think you have symptoms of endometriosis, don't let them fob you off with a scan... only a laparoscopy can detect it but from experience, you have to go through a number of things (pill, scans, Pom painkillers etc) before they will give you a laparoscopy
Thank you I will look into that. My periods have always been a bit of a nightmare. Actually one of many reasons why I ended up developing anorexia in the first place! I was on the pill to control them from age 12 for 10 years, by then though, my anorexia was pretty far gone, so when I came off the pill aged 22, they never came back for 10 odd years. My private endo did suggest last year, that I went for an ovary ultrasound and that came back fine, but my periods have got worse since then and I'm wondering if it could be Estrogen related. I will also have a look on the endometriosis forum as well, as I have no knowledge about this condition. Thanks again.
No problem! I would ask for a referral but make sure that it's to a bsge centre bsge.org.uk/centre/ good luck with this and also your battle with anorexia... I know that it's a tough thing to recognise and overcome. I really hope this all works out for you
I use Genova Diagnostics, but only the Saliva tests as Dr John Lee has said that is the only reliable way of getting an accurate result.
Doctors tend to blame everything on the Thyroid, I was having simillar issues - in that I was having a period constantly, never got a break for an entire seven months, ended up needed high doses of Iron.
A few years later I insisted that I was going through a very early menopause - and I was right, also had a very bad case of Estrogen Dominance but yet the doctors wanted to give me Estrogen, when what I needed was Natural Progesterone.

Are you better now i think i have early menpopause my skin changed thin dehydrated for my age terriblr moods fatigue, boobs ache v bad pmt ..think ill try the test

Natural Progesterone has been great for me, however I ended up having too much and that is horrible as well, my Estrogen has reduced a lot but still a little on the high side - just need to get the dose right and then all should be ok.
When I had estrogen dominance my breasts were extremely painful, i put up with that for over a year, then when I had the Natural Progesterone that symptom completely disappeared.
Hi again Debs... sorry to keep hounding you but how did u order it? It looks like it's only set up for clinicians... I know a lot of people use Genova and I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious
Thank you, I actually have very good iron levels, inherited from my mum, at no point, even at my worst health with anorexia have I ever been anaemic. But I am getting concerned that they are not settling down, hence the reason why I went to my GP, but go no joy, so now I am wondering whether I just have bad periods & its something I will have to live with. Good afternnoon Bellerin, Thats great you have good iron levels, mine are always very low. The doctors weren't very concerned when I was worried over my periods either - they are very dismissive.
The test was the 1-day Progesterone/Oestradiol (Saliva) test ( code is END12)
If you are not famillar with Genova - they will not allow you to order the test yourself, it has to be done through a medical person or nutritionalist, or you can do it through Thyroid UK - which means it will be £4 cheaper as well, results are really easy to read.
Thank you, I am awaiting another private blood test, once I have saved up. I have recently changed to go to T3 only, as my RT3 was high and I don't convert well (liver problems) so to try and get rid of the high RT3 level, I am now T3 only. My last blood test actually showed I was overmedicated, but have no hyper symptoms, so after discussing on here, it was decided that my RT3 was blocking my T3 and so I wasn't getting any benefit. I have been on T3 only for about 3 weeks now, so I will wait a little longer before having a RT3 re-test. Thanks again.
