Switching to Naturethroid

I talked to doctor about switching to nature throid from 125mcg synthroid, after discussing it with another nurse practitioner who helped me realize I was still having hypo symptoms.

I now have (8) 48.75mg and (30) 81.25mg NT tabs. I stopped synthroid 4 days ago and yesterday tried a half tab of the 48.25mg tab and felt like I was on speed all day! Had some palpitations, increased heart rate, my brain felt like it was opened up lol. Only very minor anxiety which I'm surprised at but the experience was very intense. I never got so many chores done in a day before. Sleeping was a bit tough last night too. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for my bisoprolol in the morning my pulse would've been flying.

My question is, should I continue using half right now or stop all thyroid meds until more synthroid is out of my system? Thanks.

Edit: So far today I've skipped all thyroid meds as I'm not sure if what I was experiencing is healthy.

GReenMachineX,

125mcg Synthroid is roughly equivalent to 2 grains (120-130mg) NDT. You don't have to wean off Synthroid before starting NDT. It was probably the T3 which gave you a bit of a rush, some people are more sensitive to it than others. I would continue with the half dose for a few days until you are used to it and then increase to the full doses as directed.

Ok, so there's nothing dangerous about it? Just making sure.

GReenMachineX,

Not dangerous. T3 can raise heart & pulse rate about an hour after taking it but it should subside within another hour or so. You could split the tablet into quarters and take 1/4 tablet 8-12 hours apart and see whether that is less racey.

Gotcha. I'll try just a quarter today and see how it goes. Thanks.

Quick update: even a quarter of it has me a little stimmed up and spaced out lol. Much more manageable though.

Yes I would say too much too soon as I'm assuming synthroid is T4. It that's the. Ask don't forget you have a storage of T4 in your body so starting low shouldn't be a problem so as the T4 is reducing your new meds are increasing to give a fairly smooth changeover.
