TiredMum,
Tegretol (Carbamezepine) is more likely to cause hypothyroidism than hyperthyroidism.
Endocrine
Carbamazepine increases the rate of T4 and T3 metabolism and may lead to hypothyroidism in patients with hypothyroidism who are being treated with T4. Carbamazepine may also cause a 20% to 40% decrease in serum total and free T4 concentrations and a smaller decrease in serum total and free T3 concentrations in patients who have no thyroid disease.

Thankyou for your reply all I know is I have lost a lot of faith in western medicine because of it and I did start out hypothyroid but swapped over still wondering how that happened
I'm only under a gp at the moment I have to see about a referral to a endo next week. The gp did all the blood tests and said it was graves but I do remember the first blood test saying hypothyroidism and when I brought this up with him he said sometimes it can go from hypo to hyper
Sounds like GP is muddling up Graves and Hashimoto's
Make sure at consultation with endo it's quite clear which you have
As you are coeliac then it's likely Hashimoto's
Important with coeliac to test for low vitamin D
Low magnesium also common
