I am new here! I have been taking Levothyroxin for some time for my underactive thyroid gland. The only problem I have is that at different times of the day I get hit with a cloud of sleepiness that I have to fight off or succumb to. Is there a connection or is it unrelated to my thyroid. It is 10 a.m. as I type and I am fighting it now!

Tiredness
I have this too. I'm currently trying to figure out why as well. So far, I have learnt that yes it could be related to the thyroid, certainly if you have a diagnosis of Hashimoto's (the autoimmune cause of hypothyroidism). And if you don't know what your diagnosis is, then I heartily recommend going back to your GP and getting your antibodies checked out. Excess levels = Hashimoto's, a point I only learnt 9 years after being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid!
I can recommend thyroidpharmacist.com/ for more details on how to figure out what is triggering your symptoms. For me, I suspect adrenal fatigue caused by constant low-level anxiety and stress, but for you it might be something else. Be prepared for a long, experiential process of tinkering and testing.
Good luck!
Hi there....and welcome!
When were your thyroid levels last tested? What dose are you currently on? Do you have some blood test results (and their ranges) to share with us?
Sorry to bombard you with these questions when you probably just want to have a good nap but if you have some answers we can get stuck in and try and give you some help!
Hi - you may have been told your levels are fine - but if it was a gp who told you that then I would recommend you don't automatically accept it. Time and again in this group you will hear about the lack of knowledge the typical gp has. Instead request a copy of your results (you are entitled to them by law) from your gp receptionist - "for your records" - and post them in this group. Results should look like this format - TSH 2.5 (0.4-5.0). The numbers in brackets are important as labs vary.
Important results are TSh, FT4, FT3, vit D, folate, ferritin and vit B12. Yu are very unlikely to have had them all tested, but post any that you have and you will receive more specific advice.

Even when lab work look fine but patient is not . Trust yourself it's NOT .I would look into nutrients like Selenium , B-12 with folate , Vit "D" Iron (run labs prior to dosing with ferritin too ) etc. Next I would check out adrenals/Cortisol . Adrenals and thyroid work in unison . You might need to support the adrenals . Vit "C" , B-5 , Magnesium , Celtic Sea Salt if you crave salt . For high Cortisol you might want to try "Holy Basal " . For low Cortisol you might want to try Licorice Root you must monitor your blood pressure . Adrenal glandular are available and supportive as well . And there are some herbal adrenal support supplements that are very affective as well. Eliminating sugar wheat , dairy from the diet is very helpful and adding some digestive enzymes . You might also want to check out a great book By Dr James Wilson Adrenal Fatigue .
