Do goitres always mean thyroid problem

Hi all. Ive just been to see an endocrinologist to find out if i have a thyroid problem. Ive back and forth to docs and they've done the usual tsh etc and results are normal so decided to refer myself privately.

First appointment with the endo he carried out a lot ot tests and im waiting in the results, he did point out my neck has goiters and has booked me in tomorrow for ultrasoun.

What id like to know is do goiters always mean thyroid problem ?

I have signs of low even though my tsh that my gp did was on the lower end of the scale 0.28. I must note though that my endo told me to ignore those results as they mean very little.

Curious now as to whether goiter means thyroid issue

I had multinodular goitre for over 10 years with no thyroid dysfunction. I had several fine needle aspirations over the years to check for malignancy but they were negative. Eventually I had to have a total thyroidectomy as the goitres were squashing my trachea causing obstruction when I lay flat. At surgery one of the nodules was found to be malignant, but the rest benign. I certainly have only had hypothyroid symptoms post surgery none before. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't actually bother me much tbh, im more concerned that if my blood results come back normal then they will jush brush me off with no thyroid problem which means its back to square one of trying to find out what is wrong with me.i dont obviously want to have a thyroid problem but i fed up witj feeling awful all tne time and not knowing why.

What is central hypothyroid? Does it give similar symptoms as hypothyroid?

Thanks again for your reply. Just back from my ultrasound and i have some nodules on the right and a larger one (3x2 cm) to the left so back tomorrow to see endo to go over the results of ultrasound and apparently my blood results are ready also.

The sonographer said i might need a fine needle biopsy down but the endo will talk with me tomorrow about that.

Feeling really nervous actually. 😢
