Hi everyone

I'm hypothyroid , I have alot of throat mucus and cough a lot to clear my throat , my ent specialist said I have allergies and allergic rhinitis.

Was just wondering if this is thryroid related ?

Does anyone else have this problem ?

Thanks

Oh yeah, called POST NASAL DRIP, how are your blood test levels? Since being on NDT and working to get dosage correct PND has pretty much gone and allergic rhinitis vastly improved. Mind I still have cotton hanky on me always as still have 'the sniffles' just no where near as bad :)

Yes it's very common.

If you yourself know nothing triggers it then you don't have allergies and simply have post nasal drip. If you then end up with sinus problems you have non-allergic rhinosinusitus.

You need to get your thyroid hormone level, vitamins and iron optimal to minimise your risk of it getting worse.

I wish doctors wouldn't automatically assume people had unknown allergies when they had this as people then aren't checked for thyroid disorders and autoimmune problems.

Yes, before Dr. P. properly diagnosed me with Hashi's I had constant catarrh, post nasal drip and cough, which were really getting me down. The GPs and endo I saw were adamant that it was an allergy, but the allergy testing lady said it could be due to my thyroid problem. Guess who was right!

Since taking NDT/T3 it has all nearly gone, although I still feel as though I have a 'frog in my throat' and am constantly clearing it.
