I am starting to learn that thyroid problems are linked with all kinds of other things
and was just wondering if this blotchiness I get on my palms has a thyroid connection.
I started getting this around the time that I noticed a lump in my throat for the first time ie 2 years ago.
Am attaching a pic but not sure how well you will see it from that. It is a lot more marked than it appears in the photo and is most marked on the palm's outer edge and the base of the thumb. It isn't painful, sore or itchy.
Does anyone know what this is?

That's a good idea - they often know more than doctors (although that isn't hard.....eeek when did THAT cynicism arrive). It doesn't hurt at all though.
Yes pharmacists are always a good start. Hopefully they will have a cream that works.I think that cynicism against medical profession is a thyroid symptom however. I'm surprised that it doesn't appear on any of the thyroid symptom lists 😂
The site has a huge number of photographs which might help in narrowing down the possibilities.
Just to warn, all too many skin issues cannot be identified with certainty just from photographs. They might need a biopsy, or examination under a microscope. Be careful not to make assumptions.
Thanks Helvella. It doesn't bother me at all so not an issue in itself. I was just curious to know if it had any connection to thyroid as so much else seems to have.
I know what you mean. I have an odd little lump - has been on my hand for at least thirty years. And I simply cannot decide what it is! It does increase and reduce over the weeks/months/years. No real problems except extremely minor annoyance.
I would post a pic and say snap but no brain to figure out how. Both hands have looked like that for... Gosh 21 years at least. Pointed out to me by a Osteopath who said it was a sign of Raynauds. Never followed it up as do have raynauds so just was oh right, never knew that. Always there in fat pad to wrist from little finger, sometimes fainter but usually bright red.
Aha! Someone else who has it. Was beginning to think it was some personal strangeness. Never googled anything because as Helvella points out photos on the internet can be misleading and don't want to go down that particular rabbit hole.
Absolutely 😁 I have enough problems without my imagination adding to them 😂 I kinda took Osteopaths word, figured why say it if not true. Never bothered me just 'there'. After seeing your pic my curiosity has been prodded though. If you ever do find out what it is post it on here please, be very grateful.x Linda
I’m pretty sure I posted a picture of my hand looking exactly like that a while ago. Blowed if I can find it now though. Anyway, you’re definitely not suffering a personal oddness. 😂 There’s at least three of us in the blotchy hands club now. I get tingling with mine and my fingertips are very tender. This pic is from this morning, it’s not so noticeable today, comes and goes, although the tingling is always there.
I’ve had a similar rash. Do your hands feel cold or tingly? My Endo thinks I’m showing signs of Reynaulds, so maybe worth looking this up. I’ve found taking a daily turmeric, black pepper & ginger supplement has helped improve circulation in my hands and feet. The Reynaulds forum also suggested Ginkgo Bilbao but I haven’t tried this yet.
