Hi lovely people, can anyone advise where and brand of best / most effective supplements out there? Need to try to get the most out of the Levo I'm taking as I don't think it's having much of an effect. Thank you.
Best supplements please?: Hi lovely people, can... - Thyroid UK
Best supplements please?
I find Solgar and Troo are good brands. I get them from Amazon usually x
What have you been tested for ? Which ones will cover your needs - gluten free ? Lamberts - Thorne Research - so many good ones. I would avoid the cheaper brands as they are usually full of not so good fillers etc.
Only been tested for iron and doc said I was in middle of the range ( 50 ish ) seems to ring a bell. I intend to do a BH full Thyroid test as am wondering whether I'm converting to T3 as I have no energy at all for anything. I've just woken up and am slumped on the sofa , just about able to make a cup of tea !
Anyhow just feel I'm desperate now to do something to try to get me going.
Just increased Levo to 50 , 2 weeks ago. Marz , I know I'm being impatient and that I shouldn't try to rush things but I just want some energy to enjoy life ( am 60) . Do you think I shouldn't take anything before I take the BH test ?
And when should I take the test as I've only been on this increase for 2 weeks, even though it feels sooooo much longer than that......
Thanks x
Having testing done through BH or Medichecks sounds a good idea - as you need to know your levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD as well as the FULL thyroid profile - TSH - FT4 - FT3 and Anti-TPO and Anti-Tg.
I started on 25mcg T4 back in 2005 and felt horrid - on 50 too. Sometimes the low doses can do more harm than good - as your Pituitary gland senses there is T4 in the blood from the tablet and stops pumping out the TSH - which prevents the thyroid delivering additional T4 in adequate quantities - all about feedback
I have read that it can take 6/8 weeks for the dose you are taking to have an effect - so yes it seems patience is required ..... I would hold off supplementing before testing.
Are you taking any other meds that could be blocking uptake or at least affecting it ? Do you have gut issues ?
Hang in there and keep on posting for support
I have no gut issues but I do take Bisoprolol ( have done for years). My gp told me to take them together but I don't, I leave at least a 6 hour gap between taking them. Levo at 5/6 am then Beta Blocker never before 1pm.
Am I doing this correctly, do you think ?
I don't take anything apart from my thyroid meds and supplements so am not up to speed - nor am I able to help with timing. What is Bisoprolol ? Beta Blockers - are you taking those for blood pressure ? How long have you been taking them ? Low or High Thyroid can be the cause of raised blood pressure ....
I take the BB for high BP due to anxiety/ palpitations, have taken them for 30 years!!! Bisoprolol is a brand of Beta Blocker. A more modern version of Propranolol. I used to take Propranolol for may years but my gp changed me over about 4 years ago. All my family were on BB 's ( all had raised bp and mum had under active thyroid and sister too ! ) Sadly, there's no one left to ask , so I'm in the dark with all of this as only diagnosed last October ish .....( Brain fog .... can't remember all the details.... )
Most people are deficient in magnesium which can be one of the causes of the arteries stiffening and causing the BP to rise.

Please do try and research blood pressure and thyroid - they are connected in many cases.
