Hi. I am looking to take calcium and magnesium supplements but have read can interfere with Levo does anyone have any advice about this. I first posted on here as still feeling under par however blood test shows ok and now looking into other possibilities. Also what is correlation between hypothyroidism and these supplements?

Gaildodds,
Unless you have calcium deficiency you should not supplement calcium. Too much calcium is not good. If you are calcium deficient and have been prescribed calcium it should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine. Magnesium should also be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.
As far as I'm aware there is no connection between hypothyroidism and low calcium or low magnesium other than some hypothyroid patients may have low stomach acid which may reduce the nutrients absorbed from food.

gaildodds Why calcium? Have you tested and found to be deficient? We shouldn't take calcium unless we know we are deficient.
Magnesium - most of us are low in this so most of us need it. Different forms here, check to see which would suit you best

Take magnesium four hours away from thyroid meds, and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening.
We Hypos need all our vitamins and minerals at optimal levels for thyroid hormone to work properly, that's our own or replacement.
Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin all need to be optimal.
What are your latest thyroid test results? The aim of a treated hypo patient generally is for TSH to be 1 or below or wherever it is needed for FT4 and FT3 to be in the upper part of their respective reference ranges. Is that where yours are?
