Ditto ! I diet like hell ( 800-1000 calories a day ) and exercise I stay the same. I eat a healthy diet low fat, lots of veg beans and pulses, with occasional treats / eat well at the weekend. And I'm piling it on. I gave up my strict diet in February after finding out about t3 and thought sod it not dieting till I give that a go. And have gone up a dress size in 3 months : ( Just getting going on t3. All I can say is it better flippin work !

Hope it does for you too

Please let me know how you get on. I'm am very intrigued by the whole thing surrounding T3. Would you be so kind as to private message me with the details of where your purchased your T3 from Thank you

One another note. Can they test the conversion level of a person before they have RAI treatment?? Surely if they could that would be a way of keeping the cost down. Those that convert easily have RAI etc and those that don't convert are given the choice

Snoddy, if you want to find out whether or not you are converting your T4 to T3, and if so, is it generating sufficient T3, get your free T3 and free T4 measured (via blood test), make sure the units are the same (you might have to Google a converter, there are lots of them), then divide FT4 by FT3. the answer should be about 4. 4:1 is the ratio of FT4 to FT3 in a "healthy" person, i.e. without a thyroid problem, AKA euthyroid.

Or post your results here - with units - and someone will do it for you.

Most doctors think it is a slimming pill. It's yet another reason why they don't like prescribing it. They seem to think that people who are fat have to be made to suffer to punish them for what doctors assume is greed.

It's an extremely puritanical point of view.

If I eat any less I will be living off of fresh air. I'm eating better now than I ever have. Healthier and certainly better but still the weight climbed on.

Here are some of my thoughts about T3 and slimming. You can slim using T3 BUTTTTT it is a very delicate, tricky business. I think I know the reason why. I will do this is lbs and stones for the UK and US audience. Lets take the scenario where you are 175lbs, 12.5 stones (80kg) and you want to lose weight and you have a thyroid problem. Your dose will be 1.7 * your weight in Kilos, 1.7 * 80kg = 136 mcg Levo.

summarising:

175lbs = 12.5 stone = 80 kg = 136 mcg Levo

Lets say you manage to lose 5lbs by dieting. This produces:

170lbs = 12.14 stone = 77kg = 130 mcg Levo Your a little overdosed!

Because of your overdose, T3 kicks in and increases your metabolism.

This causes you to lose a few more lbs a little more quickly:

When you have dropped one stone (14 lbs) this is

14lbs = 1 stone = 6.4 kgs = 11 mcg: i.e 11mcg excess dosage over the original.

so, lose a stone and you have

161 lbs = 11.5 stone = 73.0 kg = 124 mcg.

Now, that is a colossal overdose from the original 136 mcg and by now you should stop this method of losing weight because you are moving into hypo, you will probably be experiencing palpitations at this point and that is very bad. And that is where the danger in using the T3 method sets in. You have to be very aware of your reaction to your thyroid dose, very, very careful and prepared to reduce your dose along the way. There is another phenomena to be aware of. You may not be converting to T3 at low levels of Levo but converting adequately at high levels. This is just another slight complication for the low converter people.

Anyway, that's my theory - go for it biologists and medical people, I am just a logician.

Oh my gawd!!!!!! It's a right royal pickle!!!

My weight has always been stable. I can honestly say when my natural thyroxine level was through the roof the weight dropped off. Now I'm hypo (thanks to endo and RAI) the weight has piled on.

I know I feel better running at a higher level. My system feels right running high.

Hi Snoddy, when your thyroxine level was high you were generating lots of T3 which revved up your metabolism and so "...the weight dropped off". You have now passed through that critical point and entered the hypo region. It's a constant balancing act for many of us.

I hoping it gets revved up again then. But seriously I'd like it to crawl up the ladder a bit just to be able to shift a bit of it
