Test results- advise please.

Hi just got my test results back

Tsh 0.14 mU/L (0.35 - 5.5mU/L)

Serum free T4 level15.8 pmol/L (10 - 19.8pmol/L)

These were on 75mcg levo. I'm not feeling well. Starting to feel a bit better than on 62.5mcg though. Would you advise me to go up to 100 or alternating 75/100? Is it likely that 100mcg will push me over the top of ref. range?

Thanks to all the lovely people on this forum who have helped me tremendously during this Hypo journey!

Lisan1,

Symptoms can lag behind good biochemistry by a couple of months so you might have improvement on your current dose 75mcg to come.

TSH 0.14 is below range but not suppressed but any dose increase will suppress it. FT4 is over half way through range but there is scope for a small dose increase to raise it. 75/100mcg is likely to be more acceptable to your GP than 100mcg.

Thank you!

My tsh had been low since on 50 mcg but is now increasing even though I'm increasing levo dose and ft4 is also increasing. Tsh on 62.5 was 0.08

Do you think 100 will push me over and give me hyper symptoms?

Lisan1,

I think it could push FT4 over range and will definitely suppress TSH very low but that won't necessarily give you hyper symptoms.

Ok, Thanks! What do you think would make me feel best alternating or 100mcg?

I think it is when the person herself/himself finds they feel well that they are on the dose that suits them. I shall give you a link which may be helpful.

Thank you both of you.

I think that since I just want to feel well as soon as possible I want to increase meds to 100. But maybe this isn't the smartest way to proceed...

If doc agrees to increase to every other day would it make sense to take 100 for a couple of days the first week just to raise levels quicker?

Lisan1,

It won't hurt but it may not help either. It isn't simply a question of how fast you raise thyroid levels, it takes time to metabolise those higher levels too.

If you haven't already done so, ask your GP to check ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as low/deficient levels can cause symptoms similar to hypothyroid symptoms.
