What to take

Hi my daughter has just received her Blood test results. Her Vitamin B12 and Serum Folate are very low. Could anyone please recommend something for her to take each day to raise her to an optimal level?

It wouldn't be very wise to do that really. How low are you talking about?

Under range or very low in range, you really need to talk to the experts who are on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum here on Health Unlocked. She may need to be tested for Pernicious Anaemia. She may need B12 injections. Does she have any signs and symptoms of B12 deficiency - check those here b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

My daughter has no signs of anything at all. Because most of our family have problems I paid for her to have the Thyroid plus 10 test. Her vitamin

B12 is L156 insuffient (140-250)

Serum folatE is L8.29 ( 8.83 - 60.8)

both of these results are marked L for low

I just wanted to find out about supplementing for improvement.

B12 - 156

Folate - 8.29 (8.83-60.8)

Folate is deficient, B12 very low in range. If no symptoms of B12 deficiency now, there very well could be soon (did you check the list with her?)

No, don't just supplements without further investigation.

The importance of not neglecting low B12 can be seen here

Please go to the PA forum with these results, as suggested. They are the experts and will advise you what should be done.

Hi thanks for the information. I have just joined the PAS so, therefore

can now access in more detail.

What has her GP prescribed?

Do you have the blood tests results - all numbers including normal ranges in brackets.

When your daughter asked for her results wasn't she advised to see GP?

When phoning for results always ask details and ranges while you write them down. Or ask reception for a print out. Mine charged 50p.
