Pregnant with TSH of 5.10

Has anyone been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism while pregnant and given birth? I would like to know the outcome. I read that a high TSH level can cause miscarriage and brain defects in the unborn child.

I am about 4 weeks pregnant through IVF and found out that my TSH is 5.10. My concern is for the possible long term damage I have caused my baby.

Try not to worry too much as you will now be on thyroid hormones and you had no way of knowing you were hypothyroid. Sometimes women become hypothyroid for the first time when pregnant or after delivery.

You are just over the top of the range and some people have a TSH in the 50's.

I trust you have good doctors and members who've been in a similar situation to yourself will respond.

When getting blood tests they should be at the earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between the last dose and the test and take afterwards.

Always get a print-out of your results with the ranges and post if you have a query.

Levothyroxine should be taken with one full glass of water and wait about an hour befor eating. Food can interfere with the uptake.

Regards.

Thank you for your reply. I will post my results with my next blood draw in 12 days. My TSH was 1.1 before frozen embryo transfer and when my TSH level was rechecked two weeks after it went up. I was taking my medicine 1 hour before taking estradiol by mouth, progesterone shots, and prenatal vitamin. They increased my dose from 100mcg daily to 150mcg daily two days ago and now I take it at 4am and do not take estradiol till 7am and pre natal at 11 am and shots at night. I hope this helps with any possible blockage of absorption of my synthroid. Because I can't understand the quick rise, my endo told me it is because I am pregnant (hope that is the answer). Again thank you for your helpful reply. I can't stop wondering if it is too late for damage control.

Considering that the top of 'normal' range is up to around 5 and that the BTA have for some unfathomable reason guidelines say to not diagnose a person until their TSH is 10 try not to worry but do know that will be difficult, especially as you've undergone IVF but it has been successful. :)

A four hour gap between the synthroid and the estradiol might be better. :)

Is food ok in three hours? and a 4 hour gap for estradiol? Or should I stay without eating for 4 hours as well?

You can eat after one hour.

My last TSH = 3.6, Endocrin DOC is blaming the pregnancy. I will be monitored throughout my pregnancy. Continue to take 150mcg of synthroid. Thank u all!
