Pregnant with TSH 30

Does anyone have information on pregnancy outcomes with thyroid issues? I just found out my TSH is 30 and I am pregnant. My husband and I are very concerned about the health consequences for the baby. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

kimberlyR Are you diagnosed Hypothyroid and on Levo?

I believe for a successful pregnancy that TSH needs to be below 2 or 2.5

Make an urgent appointment with your GP, you may need an urgent referral to an endocrinologist.

Welcome to the forum, KimberlyR.

You should seek medical help urgently. You need to start taking 75-100mcg Levothyroxine as a matter of urgency to raise your thyroid levels and bring down your TSH as you are at high risk of miscarriage.

The UK recommend that the TSH of women newly pregnant should be in the low-normal range 0.4 - 2.5 to ensure good foetal development. The foetus is entirely dependant on maternal thyroid hormone until 12 weeks.

Thank you so much for the replies. This forum is amazing. I wish I had found it sooner. I was already diagnosed with Hashimoto (many years ago at age 19, I am 37 now). Somehow even on medication (75 mcg NatureThroid) my TSH rose to 30. My GP has switched me to levo 100 mcg because that was my dose during my first pregnancy. I felt so much better on NatureThroid though. After my first pregnancy, my levo was decreased to 88 mcg, then I switched to 75 NatureThroid and TSH inititally checked fine and I felt great. GP insists that I use levo now since the dose across pills is more reliable? I had an ultrasound yesterday that determined I am 6 weeks along. I had my TSH drawn today and am anticipating result for an appointment with fetal maternal medicine tomorrow afternoon. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Kimberly, I would suggest you make a new post. New replies don't bump old threads on this forum so you have more chance of replies if you post a new thread. Mention pregnancy in the title to grab the attention of those who know about hypo and pregnancy, I'm afraid I don't know enough to comment.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and very best wishes that you sail through it :)
