I'm currently awaiting my test results but just wondered if anyone knows if you are more likely to experience thyroid problems if you suffer from a B12 deficiency. Many thanks 😊

Question
The two often go together, and a lack of B12 will interfere with proper metabolism of the thyroid hormones. If you are B12 deficient there is little point in starting thyroid replacement till you have that sorted out. Thyroid treatment takes a long time to work, and get the dose right, if your B12 is off you just won't know what is going on and what is cause and effect.
Other things that need to be good (not just in range, but at least half way through) are Vitamin D, ferritin and folate.
I've been having 12 weekly B12 injections for nearly 10 years now and think levels are ok. Had a little blip with folate but took and supplement which I think sorted it. I'm now experiencing a hoarse voice, cold hands and feet, weight gain and tiredness like I've never experienced before - sometimes feel like I'm drunk without the fun of drinking 😩
