Yes. Dry, flaky/powdery. itchy. pale, even yellowish skin.
You CAN be born with thyroid trouble but it is usually tested at birth so is likely to be picked up. My first thyroid trouble (Graves' disease) was diagnosed at 13 so yes, it can start pretty young. How old are you now, and are you being treated?

Just saw you are hyper not hypo, sorry about that, but it still applies except the skin is more likely to become very thin, and fragile, with raised itchy patches esp on the legs but almost anywhere. I had horrible itches esp in summer. As I said, I was hyper from 13. Crazy. (I was, too!)
yep marram thats me, lots of bumps, on my shins to a few really dark marks, summer is hell for me too, i went to a football match yesterday and it was so warm, i struggle with hives alot, heat hives, all my symptoms are bad but that one is the one that gets me the most, thank you so much for your reply, since i joined here im feeling very much ready for the fight to get well xx
hi marram thanks alot for your reply, so you were 1, thats young, and if mine has just been left over the years its naturally got worse i can imagine, this year is the only time ive got enough info to go ahead and investigate my thyroid properly, before i had had test done on and off over the years, seen a few decent gps but most were very much like its in your head kind of attitude, so i joined here, and have had iodine tests done, it looked like it was showing that my iodine was low, so im in the process of doing the vitamin d and b12 tests and seeing one of those recommended doctors from louise, i need to see a doctor with a brain i think lol my symptoms are getting worse all the time, so im really going to make this year the year were i get taken seriously by gps, its gonna be a long road but i at least need some kind of treatment, i like to keep a positive outlook on all this stuff with the thyroid
danny, selenium is very important and you might look into supplementing with it. stopthethyroidmadness.com/s...
As a general comment, the silly question is very often the one that is not asked.
To add to marram's responses, vitamin D also has profound effects on skin.
The combination of adequate thyroid hormone and vitamin D has made my skin feel significantly nicer to me - though anyone else (e.g. a doctor) might have noticed little, if any, change. And vitamin D is so often low...

hi helvella your right and thanks for your reply too, i am going to get some of that vit d oil too, im really interested to see what the results of vit d test will be, my skin is so dry at times its unreal, i thought they may be a connection between my skin and thyroid because when my skin felt bad i had the thyroid symptoms too, def a connection, i am very greatful for the info, many thanks

Agree ^
Vitamin D and E are fabulous for the skin. Mine is so dry and flaky I carry a bottle of vitamin E oil around with me. And Aloe vera gel. I have seen an improvement since my thyroxine dose was increased. It's still not ideal but it's better. I no longer have dandruff in my socks to the degree I did.
hi hayface (cool name) yeah same as me when i shave my head, its all just dry and flaky, awful so i can relate to the sock dandruff saga, im going to order some right now of amazon, some of those olis thanks alot for your help
many thanks
Dan
Danny, I am in the same boat with you.
I am hyper and I have been underweight since I was a child. i only recently know i am hyper and when look up for more information, I find myself could be born with it and was trigger by stress in college and work.
I always wonder why I still got spots like a teenager (I am 51). Strict control of diet does help if your breakout is due to hormones related.
