What do these tests mean, please?

Hi everyone,

I have had hypothyroidism for quite while now and have b12 deficiency so receive injections every 3 months. Also diagnosed as having IBS My symptoms are worsening!

In 2015 I had a cyst removed and the ovary along with it. Lots of adhesions prevented the other ovary being removed. They managed to free the bowel up a bit more and was on morphine afterwards.

At the 6 week follow up I felt like I was running at super speed and twitchy, the

result from Gynae clinic: on 23/9/15 approx. 6 weeks after operation

Thyroid function test

TSH 1.27mU/L

Free T4 21.6 pmol/L

Gynae consultant saw me , said I was displaying symptoms of overactive thyroid and recommended dropping to 125mcgs,.

I remained on this until annual thyroid test the next year see below

Test from Drs on 31/10/16

Serum Sodium 141mmol/L

Serum Potassium 4.4mmol/L

Serum creatinine 73umol/L

GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD 70ml/min/1.73m2

Serum TSH level 15.89mU/L

! medication increased levothyroxine from 125 to 150mcg daily, repeat in 8 weeks

Increased TSH suggestive of poor compliance/inadequate dose.

Consider review of levothyroxine therapy taking account of patient's clinical status. Allow 8 weeks post change in levothyroxine dose before retesting: aim for a TSH within reference range.

TSH level Drs. test 20.12.16

Serum TSH level 6.14mU/L

KD5588) - needs another increase in meds see 20.12.16

Increased TSH suggestive of poor compliance/inadequate dose.

Consider review of Levothyroxine therapy taking account of patient's clinical status. Allow 8 weeks post change in levothyroxine dose before re-testing: aim for a TSH within reference range.

Notes: on thyroxine dose increased.

Drs test serum TSH level on 24/3/17

Serum TSH level 0.2mU/L

(JDAE5588) - no change in thyroxine dose, repeat TSH in 3 months

I am concerned about going up to 175mcgs because of symptoms that have developed recently; I was over prescribed previously and was quite bad.

Symptoms at the moment throat feels strained around the lower part, glands or thyroid itself??

Shakiness, thumps,

lower back ache with pins/needles down leg into the focouuot( not all the time)

overheating every night with flushed feeling in daytime.

also my balance doesn't seem normal

They have told me to remain on 175mcgs until further thyroid test in July

l would be thankful if you could help me make sense of this

If you aren't a member already suggest you join the PAS forum for advice in relation to B12 - quite likely you are undermedicated at 3 monthly maintenance doses.

Thank you, Gambit 62

I am over at PAS, too, but wonder if I should try and get my thyroid sorted out first before I tackle b12 deficiency?

thanks for clarifying - suggest that you keep a diary of symptoms - particularly in relation to timing of maintenance shots andsee if there is any correlation. Sorting out B12 may then affect the thyroid so it may be abit of swings and roundaboutsfor a while.
