Please explain TPO vs TgAb tests

Hi folks - Thank you all for this forum. I've found it very helpful :-) last summer I was dx with Hashi's based on high TPO test. It was initially 134 and was able to get it down to 98 by getting off gluten and starting Low Dose Naltrexone. After being on this site, I asked my Doc to do the TgAb test and it came back normal. Any thoughts on why this would be the case? Thanks for reading

  • Rosie_P,

They are different thyroid antibody tests but if either is positive it confirms Hashimoto's. Some people are negative for thyroid peroxidase antibodies but are positive for thyroglobulin antibodies, and vice versa. Some people are positive for both.

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.
