According to STTM they are two different tests but just went on this link and it suggests they are the same:
healthline.com/health/antit...
The relevant bit is near the top:
The antithyroglobulin antibody test is also known as:
thyroid autoantibody
antithyroid antibody
antimicrosomal antibody
TPOAb
Anti-TPO
TBII
TgAb

FoggyMoggy,
TPOAb is Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies
TGAb is Thyroglobulin antibodies
Either or both denoting Hashimotos
TSIAb is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) denoting Graves Disease.
Other names for TSIAb are TSHR Ab, TR Ab, TBII.

Hi Flower
I thought the two were different...So that article is wrong!
Also, I was only offered one (TPOAb).
Should I ask for TgAb next time as well? Or is that only if they think you have Hashimotos? Last time my TSH and T3 and T4 low (but within range)

FoggyMoggy,
Most surgeries only offer tests for TPOAb.
A bit like they only test TSH to monitor thyroid hormone levels ? ? ..
You could ask your surgery or endo to test for TGAb if you are worried or else use private labs - link below.
Some people with Hashimotos have TPOAb's or TGAb's & some have both. You need to be tested for both to totally eliminate Hashimotos.

Thanks Flower. I will have a look. I have had private T3 and T4 but they weren't too expensive so hope the TGab isn't either!

Have a look here:
Formal name: Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb); Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb); Thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb)
labtestsonline.org.uk/under...
That is meant to read that there are three thyroid antibody tests.
The Healthline site is way out there. If that is their standard quality, I'd avoid them.
If you really want to know more, you could have a look here:
thyroidmanager.org/chapter/...
But don't expect to understand much on first reading. Or second. Or third...

Thanks, Helvella. I will have a proper look at some point. Just off to bed now and won't get a chance in next couple of days!

They are different, but the NHS relies on TPO only. I didn't have any of those, but my TgAb result was almost 100 times above range.
The TgAb test costs 3 times more than the TPO one in my area - does this influence the decision making process?? Mmmm, what do you think??
