Advise please, more bloods

Hi All,

I had more bloods taken last week, got the results today. Doctor wants to see me again on Monday, something to do with serum ferritin levels and that I need to do a repeat blood test for my Liver functions. Is this all connected to having an under active thyroid? And is it something I need to worry about? Cheers

Liver function may be connected to hypothyroidism. Ferritin is stored iron.

Just be aware that, if Ferritin is high, it not necessarily a reliable indicator of iron storage level.

Transferrin Saturation is used in conjunction with Ferritin to determine whether a patient has too much or too little iron.

For those of us on dialysis, this is how it is decided whether to give a weekly iron top-up.

Elevated ferritin levels are usually due to causes such as acute or chronic inflammation, chronic alcohol consumption, liver disease, renal failure, metabolic syndrome, or malignancy rather than iron overload

Just got back from the doctors, I'm now on iron tablets. As for my liver the doctor said it is a little bit sluggish and they want to retest in 6 weeks, but has told me not to worry.
