These are latest bloods, my doctor is not aware I upped my eltroxin from 50mg to 75mg. Took test at 9am last dose taken 24 hours before. My doctor said my bloods were excellent. My weight still hasn't gone down. And feeling extremely tired, but yet I'm chronic insomniac?? Please can someone advice if I need to increase dose further. I am 62kg. Thanks

Hi Sallina

In order for people to comment they really need to know the ranges for your results. That way they’ll be able to see how low/high you are.

Sorry TSH range (0.27-4.20) T4 (12.0-22.00)

T3 (3.1-6.8)

FERRITIN (13-150)

Doctor has never referred to my high ferritin, nor was Hasimotos or graves ever discussed.

I ticked a few extra boxes on my bloods & got them done in local hospital.

You need vitamin D, folate and B12 tested

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease

Have you had coeliac blood test done yet

If not, get tested before considering trial on strictly gluten free diet

Sorry don't how my reply didn't get sent. My foliate & B12 are OK, I'm taking Vit D supplement. Coeliac test negative. I'm just unsure how the calculations work, should my TSH be at a lower percentage, I think it's 42% now, and T4 & T3 should they be higher??? This is what I can't really understand. If you can direct me to some information on working this out, I would gratefully appreciate it, you've been so helpful. Kind regards x

Have you been checked for hemochromatosis? Genetic. Quite common in northern Europeans, Irish, and the UK.

No I never heard of this, must check it out. Thanks

I think you need to come clean with your Doctor and tell him/her that you’ve already upped your dose to 75mcg or you’re going to run out of Levo if you don’t. If it was me, I would want to increase my Levothyroxine to possibly 100/75 alternating as you have room for an increase. The most important thing is - how do you feel on your current dose.

Thanks feel the same as, I generally do not suffer hypo symptoms, just weight gain that cannot be shifted, even though my diet is very good. I suffer chronic insomnia, but last 4 weeks feel very tired, despite not being able to sleep without meds. Changed from 50 to 75mg 12 weeks ago. I got my tabs in Spain. Like most Doctors at the moment, your lucky enough if you can get a visit, never mind a phone call.

So you’re self medicating extra Levo. I still think you need to come clean with your Doctor as you could run into problems in the future. Tiredness (fatigue) is a symptom of hypo so you do have symptoms!

Yes ive no problem telling my Doctor I've done this, and I will through email. Always keep a paper trail when dealing with health. This same Doctor has said my bloods excellent no need for meds changed???? I will inform him as to why!!! Same Doctor took me off meds 18 months ago, when I was on 25mg, blood tests after spiralled out of control. So sometimes like most on this forum, you have to educate yourself, and become the expert of your own health, and do what's best for you & your family. I'm only feeling tired lately, could be due to covid or vaccinations. as I suffer chronic insomnia and cannot sleep, only with meds. I will ask him about your suggestion about 75/100 and get it tested again in 6 weeks. Thanks

Hi Sallina

Yes you’re ferritin is high but if you put the ranges for your iron panel somebody may be able to assist.

Are these results after your increase? Do you take any supplements?

I am still on my journey but my current thinking is that my ft4 at your level would be too high for me. But admittedly you have a higher ft3 that me so it maybe that you could take another increase. You still have room to do it and it is very much trial and error to find your own optimal.

I only tell the doctor what he needs to know. I get some on prescription and self source whatever I add. With your tsh though I expect you could mention it if you felt the need. It’s not that low so as they only care about tsh generally you might find he’ll at least let you try a raise in dose.

Thanks but you know yourself, they don't like you thinking you know more. I will email and explain my rational x

Lol I certainly do know that. I think that it’s not about knowledge so much here as experience. Only you know how you feel and sleep issues can be a symptom. Have you tried taking your levo at night? I don’t because I’m a grazer. Eat throughout lol but it does help some. Maybe you’ve tried it but I thought I’d mention it x

Thanks for your input worth trying as everything from sleep specialist cannot solve it, with meds I get maximum 3 hours.

That would drive me mad. Fingers crossed you can sort that out very soon x.

Have you had a sleep study done?Low thyroid = enlarged tongue and floppy muscles in the throat.

It is possible that your brain is not allowing you to get deep sleep.

Do you snore? Are you grinding your teeth?

You mention that you are wanting to lose weight. I don't know how

old you are but as women get older, estrogen levels go down and

fat deposits in the neck. This contributes to a reduction of throat

space during sleep especially. If you have a small lower jaw or if

your neck circumference is 16 inches or greater, the chance of

sleep apnea or hypopnea is increased.

Not what you're looking for?
