Earltr,
If you mean Americans get FT3 and FT3 blood tests you'll find that some do but a high proportion only have TSH tested. Some UK practices test TSH, FT4 and FT3 but not very many. TSH and FT4 is tested in most practices but there are some which only test TSH in hypothyroid patients. You can order private thyroid test via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
If you have autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) it increases your likelihood of developing other autoimmune diseases. It isn't uncommon to have Hashimoto's and pernicious anaemia which causes B12 deficiency. Hypothyroidism reduces stomach acid which can make it difficult to obtain nutrients from food which is why it is recommended members get ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate checked.
I have both! Trouble is a lot of the symptoms are similar for each condition. I did see a private endocrinologist but he wasn't at all interested in my low B12. Fortunately my GP has been very good and is giving me injections every six weeks, and it has made a huge difference to how I feel.
