Ninja1,
Your GP is wrong. It is low T3 which causes hypothyroid symptoms. TSH is important in the sense that when high it indicates under medication. What are your TSH, FT4 and FT3 results and ranges (ranges are the figures in brackets after results). I find it difficult to believe that 50mcg is sufficient dose for someone without a thyroid gland.
No I know I'm seeing private ends tomorrow as gps knowledge is frightening. They only checked tsh 15.58. 0.4-4.00. And free t4 17.7 10.00 -25 I had privatevt3 done buts he's adamant tsh and t 4 don't count so I said well why is tsh the main test they do. He then referred me to an endocrinologist when all I really need in my opinion is my meds upped but he won't give me extra. Endo appoint not for another three months but I can't wait that long so going private on Thursday
Ninja1,
If TSH and FT4 don't count why is he testing them instead of FT3? You certainly need your meds upped to reduce TSH. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.
He's right about TSH (unless it's over 1) but wrong about FT3 - very. If FT4 is good and FT3 is low, you are not converting T4 to T3 and are therefore still hypo.
