Am I wasting my time exercising with half a Thyroid?

Those who have seen my previous posts will know that I had a tumor and half my thyroid removed late November last year. Before this I had no Thyroid issues.

Since my op I've suffered fatigue and weight gain. At my 6 week check I'd put on 12lb and my 10 week check put on another 2lb, after 8 weeks of recovery I went back to the gym, my usual 3 times per week. But I am obviously still gaining weight, I'm at week 12 so been back at the gym 4 weeks and ive lost zero weight. My blood results are back from my 10 week check and my TSH continues to get worse (mentioned below) but not bad enough to be medicated. GP has said the exercise could be causing the weight gain with my thyroid function getting worse ?! I'm confused ! Surely exercise should help me lose weight ? Also my iron is slightly low but nothing to be concerned about (will try to get copy of results) so I'm told.

I'm so frustrated, should I give up exercise ?

Pre op TSH 1.59

6 week post op TSH 2.59

10 week post op TSH 3.39

(T4 & T3 not being tested)

Adele-84,

Your remaining thyroid is failing which is why your TSH is rising and you are gaining weight despite exercising. Unfortunately NHS rarely diagnoses hypothyroidism until TSH is over range or FT4 below range.

If iron is low you should supplement iron with 1,000mcg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation.

Adele-84 Your TSH is steadily rising so you are becoming more hypothyroid. What is your GP waiting for?

Ask for FT4 and FT3 to be tested. If you can get them done then do them privately with Blue Horizon or Medichecks - see ThyroidUK's Testing page

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

If you've not had vitamins and minerals tested then you might want to go for BH Thyroid Plus Eleven or Medichecks Ultra Vit.

At the moment, yes you are wasting your time at the gym. You need to be optimally medicated with a good FT3 level for weight loss to happen.

My GP is waiting for a miracle I think. They just don't care 😥
