Need help since Dr called saying it was good news about my TSH

My Specialist said my TSH level was .96 on the phone. I asked about my free 4 and she said she did not request it. She never does a Free 3 does anyone know about my Tsh level being at that level? Thanks

Well it depends I guess on what the problem is. If you are hypo on treatment that is pretty much a good place for your tsh although it doesn't take into consideration what your t3/t4 are, and they could still be low, or your t4 could be high and t3 low (conversion problem) etc etc.

If you're hyper, it is still within range I believe but you could be symptomatic if your t3/t4 are high. You might even find that this result on levo means your levo is too high if your heart is racing.

You don't really know much without your t3/t4 results.

I've read the test for t3 is expensive than the t4. I'm wondering if that is the problem as to why my Specialist doesn't test my t3 only t4 sometimes. I have superior plan which is a government assistance.

My GP is the same, he said the NHS only test TSH.

I had couple private thyroid results with me and he was happy to go through them with me, he said the most important thing was the antibodies being negative.

.96 is within range for my thyroid tests, sounds good to me.

Thanks Simon87. She said it was good, even if I guess I was having an anxiety at the time she was going over on how good that level was. I thought it was cause of the thyroid my heart was racing, I told the Specialist and she told me it was not my Thyroid causing that.. I started to get scared it was cause of the Thyroid.

Did she explain why she is so convinced it isn't your thyroid making your heart race? It very well could be, but there is no way to know if it is (or is not) without the additional test results.

TSH is irrelevant at its lowest. Your GP should not be adjusting your meds baded on TSH get another.

Ask your GP for all the tests, it depends where you live ( the old postcode lottery) as to what labs you'll get . My Gp always does TSH, FT3/4 along with vits & minerals. But I wouldn't get T3 prescribed. Do please ask for all the tests, take a hand written list with you & explain why you want them. Good luck

humm have they asked? The tests they ask for may not be done because the local lab doesn't do them. It's not then the fault of the GP. I certainly wouldn't consider myself lucky. I have no other medical outlet here other than my GP... no specialist I've seen will listen or even begin to understand & has I've said I was told no T3!

I had the suite the time i was diagnosed.I think he meant once diagnosed they only do THS.We have agreed to disagree on the necessity to test FT3 and FT4.

Medicate yourself, it's the only was. Lots of places to get T3 or NDT.

The NHS DOES test for free T4 and Free T3. Your doctor may not have asked for them but he/she should. Sometimes they ask and the labs don't do them. YOu could have a private test from medichecks or similar, and then you will know. But don't let him change your dose based on your TSH.

Mistydog she said she will lower my medicine in 3 weeks since I'm doing very good on my level. At times I get breathing problems, don't know why, and in hat cause I take one 5 mg of Methimazole once a day, I was thinking its a side effect to it or cause I have hashimoto and graves. Oh no apologies, it's okay. I wish I didn't have any, but taking it one day at a time and it does take one day at a time to see some improvements. I really see all this Thyroid problems people go through as a disability. Its a challenge.

Got my private results a week ago ,going for NHS blood take next week.

Interesting to see how GP responds to private tests. My TSH has moved from 0.17 to 1.58 and the FT3 and FT4 are going down . Could be winter effect on metabolism or maybe the doubling of beta blockers from 2.5 to 5mg which will affect conversion.

I've read that that's what beta blockers do Treepie, on the conversion. I only took beta blockers for a month but keep some in handy just In case. I guess that has left me defenseful, cause you never know. Wish you the best. Thanks so much.

TSH 0.96 means you are responding to Carbimazole. I'm surprised your doctor doesn't find it necessary to test FT4 in a hyperthyroid patient.

Hi Clutter ! Thanks for responding. I noticed that my Specialist doesn't always have my Free 4 tested, last month she did and this past two days I went and yesterday she said my Tsh level was .96 I asked her for my Free 4 she said lab didn't do it....and she never does Free 3 since I've seen her as my Specialist. And that's cause she is the best in town. I still carry bottles of beta blockers just in case my heart should start running I just don't trust graves disease... And that's cause I have hashimoto also. Thanks clutter always grateful.
