When I started 75mcg I felt good for maybe 3 weeks and then started to feel bad again. My results are then:

results on 50mcg levo are:

Tsh 2.8 (0.35-5.5)

Ft4 13.6 (10-19.8)

Today I got my latest results back and they are :

Latest results on 75mcg levo are:

Tsh 0.05 (0.35-5.5)

Ft4 19.4 (10-19.8)

The doctor will decrease my medication. Is this right? Why am I feeling rubbish? I still feel cold, have cold hands. Still gaining weight. Will I start to feel better when I decrease? What would your suggestion be alternate days 50 and 75. Or higher dose? I really want to start to feel better. 🙁

Thought that I was undermedicated and that an increase would make me feel well.

Please any advise before I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon?

Lisan1,

If you felt well for 3 weeks and then started feeling bad it is likely you've over shot and become a little over medicated. GPs tend to dislike suppressed TSH and yours may want to reduce dose. Negotiate 50/75mcg if you can which will reduce FT4 a little and raise TSH a tad. Skipping dose for 2-3 days before you reduce dose will speed up washing out of the higher dose.

I've been optimally medicated for almost 3 years. Unfortunately, hands and feet remain very cold most of the time. Cold hands and feet are just a thing for a lot of women and shouldn't be taken as sign of under medication.

Thank you so much for your answer. It would be brilliant if you are right and I just need to lower my dose a bit to start feel better.

Do you think I need to have my free t3 tested to rule out convertion problem?

The only result I have of ft3 is before diagnose :

TSH 4.26 (0.35-5.50)

Ft3 3.8 (3.5-6.5)

Ft4 11.7 (10-19.8)

Does these seem OK regarding convertion?

Lisan1,

You need to test TSH, FT4 and FT3 at the same time to see whether conversion is goo or bad. There's no point in looking at results from before you were diagnosed, they're irrelevant now.

Ok, they haven't tested ft3 since diagnosis. Do you think I should ask for it or shall I just try to start taking 50/75 every other day and see how I feel?

This site is really helpful. Thank you very much for helping!

Lisan1,

FT3 is rarely tested in primary care now. If your GP won't do it you can order a Blue Horizon thyroid test via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

I would skip a few doses and reduce to 50/75mcg as I advised above.
