Hi everyone, a member has suggested I go gluten free, it is a scary thought. Can anyone give me any hints or tips, suggestions and results they have had from going down this route. I have an auto immune disease (known as Hashimoto's I believe). Many thanks in advance xx

Gluten free, help?
I was a mess before going gluten free...I saw improvements within days when I stopped. (no shaking, reduced brain fog, less exhausted). It was a good start for me, I've now been gluten free for over 2 years (possibly more). To help the transition start with gluten free breads /foods...most are full with crap but some are ok..look at the ingredients (also avoid breads or foods with soy in).
Then after a while you can start making your own gluten free breads pizza bases (with cassava, tapioca flour etc lots of recipes on net ).
For me gluten free was a good start however I found eliminating dairy, soy and grains improved my health further. (Look into auto immune protocol ) ....it's not easy but worth trying for 30 days to see if you see improvements.
ETA: my antibodies halved after going AIP....maybe even more now but docs refuse to test again...will get them tested privately.
And look under Topics on the right hand side, there is one heading "Gluten free chat"
You might want to be tested for coeliac disease first just n case you also have that. For the test to work you need to be eating a lot of gluten daily (6slices bread or equivalent) for a good 6weeks. If you gave gluten up and then the docs wanted to test you,you would hve to eat it again. Sadly once you give gluten up most people have a much more severe reaction to even an accidental crumb.
I'm in this situation due to GP'S ignorance but can't tolerate eating gluten again as even a crumb makes me ill for 3-5days so no diagnosis for me Having said that being GF has helped my health enormously whether that's because I had coeliac disease or hashimotos or just gluten intolerance I don't know.
Good luck with everything.

Click onto the above link for an interesting read ..... the more we read the better we become informed Good luck ! I went gluten free over 3 years ago - anti-bodies have reduced. Reading that gluten molecules can penetrate the blood/brain barrier and cause inflammation was enough to make me give up ! This is talked about on the website of Dr Datis Kharrazian and in his book - Why Isn't My Brain Working ?
Hi, my advice would be to not get caught up in "gluten-free" processed food products. Try to stick to whole foods consisting of animal protein, veggies, a little fruit, and plenty of good fats such as pure butter, extra virgin olive oil, and extra virgin coconut oil, and grass fed/organic if possible. I use zucchini strips or eggplant slices to make lasagna, almond and coconut flour to bake with, make egg muffins for breakfast, cauliflower and mozzarella cheese pizza dough, etc. Look for low carb recipes on the internet. After a while you will not miss the grains.
