thyroid surgery
My scar is also small. My surgeon said they often take the thyroid out as pieces as they have to dissect around the parathyroid glands and also locate the laryngeal nerve in order not to cut through it. My scar initially had puffy edges where the skin had been stretched but after 3 months the edges had healed together into a small neat scar. Why are you worried that not all your thyroid has been removed? What is making you think that?
If the surgeon did what's called a minimally invasive op then the scar will be small.
Joannagof,
I had a hemilobectomy followed by complete thyroidectomy 3 months later. The scar is a fine white line in the hollow of my throat and barely visible.
An alternative to the normal standard is to do "keyhole surgery", but it is more delicate and more dangerous. When I asked about this they said it was not done at that particular hospital (Aintree/Fazakerley ). I was glad about this as wanted the correct result rather than bothering about having a scar on my throat. They took me on my word and I ended up with a huge scar but it has healed well.
It is called keyhole surgery! I had gall bladder removed via a tiny opening long disappeared!
