You could ask your pharmacist to keep Activis for you. Chopping/changing brands sometimes cause us problems.

I believe doctor prescribes 'levothyroxine' so whatever the pharmacist has in stock he will give you. So it's best if you tell the pharmacist what you prefer to collect each time.

Greentherapy,

Teva was taken off the market in 2011 or 2012 and has been reformulated and was reintroduced in Oct 2016.

If you don't feel well on the Teva inform your pharmacist and ask them to ensure you get Actavis in future. If your pharmacist isn't prepared to order Actavis for you ask for your prescription to be returned and take it to another pharmacy to be dispensed.

Hidden The new formula is that Teva Levothyroxine is now lactose free.

If you don't get on with it then you can do as suggested and ask your pharmacist to supply only Actavis in future.

Many years ago I had Eltroxin named on my prescription. When it disappeared I was given Actavis. Because I was fine on that brand, and didn't want to be changed again, I asked my surgery to name Actavis on the prescription. I was told they no longer put any brand names on prescriptions so I had a word with the pharmacist and he has made a note to always give me Actavis, I even get a printed label on the bag to that effect.

Also, despite having side effects with most inhalers for my lung disease, and only one brand suiting me, the surgery still won't name the brand on my prescription. I mentioned this to the pharmacy assistant and was told to just write it myself on the repeat form when handing it in and the pharmacy will get it in for me, it takes an extra day but there's never a problem.

The old formulation of Teva levothyroxine contained dextrin.

At some point, the company changed the sourcing of their dextrin and it was found that the new dextrin bound the levothyroxine. So, although the tablets contained the correct amount of levothyroxine, it was not all getting released so people were being under-dosed. The change in dextrin was found to be against the terms of the product licence. Hence the product was withdrawn/licence revoked.

(25 microgram Teva used to be a different formulation - they were actually Mercury Pharma levothyroxine/Eltroxin packaged as Teva. The new formulation of Teva levothyroxine has the same ingredients at every dosage.)

I had to take mine back to chemist as I was allergic to the fillets in it but they changed it for me no problem. The new formula is lactose free which is good for those suffering with lactose intolerance.☺

Many people have had problems in getting medicines exchanged once they have walked away from the counter - and certainly if they have taken the product home. Even to the extent of needing to get a completely new prescription.

This is understandable from the point of view of the pharmacist being responsible for the medicines - who knows what conditions the product might have been subjected to, especially heat in the summer?

As i said, i didnt have a problem with exchange, just told pharmacist i was intolerant to them and handed them back. I got the other ones within 24 hours which was a relief.
