That's odd Jannie1957, I've just tried it in two different browsers and it's fine for me. No obvious sign of a hack. Did you go to a specific page and get the hack, or did it happen on the home page?

AiryFairie in reply to RedApple

I just typed thyroiduk.org.uk into Google, and there was just that short message. On the home page.

Clutter in reply to AiryFairie

Thanks Jannie1957.

TUK will look into it next week. In the meantime you can use thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index....

RA,

I get the same message when I open a new tab with thyroiduk.org.uk but I have TUK already open on a tab and it's okay and I can change pages.

RedAppleAdministrator in reply to Clutter

Bizarre Clutter. I went to TUK website from a new browser window and it was absolutely fine. Just clicked on your link and got the hack message!

You have to wonder about the mentality of people who hack charity and hospital websites :x

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to Clutter

They are probably kids testing their techie skills and feeling chuffed at what they can do. <sigh> Sometimes, they may not even realise what the site is that they're hacking into. Just fishing around for open doors and happen across it.

It's because it's cached in your other browsers and sometimes they do share files.

I've tried it in Firefox and then in Chrome. In Chrome which I rarely use the hacked stuff comes up there as in Firefox it fine because it's cached.

Btw I mostly use an operating system that most folks don't use - linux.

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to bluebug

I'm aware of the cached in browser aspect bluebug, which is why I used a different browser to test the second time. It's possible the hack literally hadn't filtered down through my ISP's cache when I first tried it, but had by the time I tried again :)

bluebug profile image
bluebug in reply to RedApple

Interesting as I did both my checks immediately one after the other.

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to bluebug

I did the first test in my usual browser which is Safari on Mac. For the second I had to boot up Windows 10 and tested in Edge. I don't use that, so I know t wasn't cached in Edge on my machine.

bluebug , is Linux easy to use by a non-nerd - and I mean that in the nicest possible way? :-) :-)

Wish I understood ( or maybe wanted to) the discussion.

I get Hacked by Mr Hax as well.

HB,

Please let me know whether this link works thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index....

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to Clutter

Yes that works fine. It is just the first link I gave (which is what Google gives you as the link and always has done) which shows the hack message.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to Clutter

I think the fact that someone could alter the site and prevent the re-direction is a major red flag that the Thyroid UK website is not secure. I hope it has been backed up recently.

Also, is there any chance the site could be used to host malware? If one person can hack it then another person could do the same and they may not announce their presence like Mr Hax did.

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to humanbean

HB, I completely agree. It's getting hacked almost daily now. The webmaster needs to sort out his hosting security pronto.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to RedApple

Time to change the web host perhaps?

See my response re hacked.

I get this: Index of /tuk

Parent Directory

fundraising/

shut.php

Apache Server at thyroiduk.org.uk Port 80

Could this be to do with TUK getting a new website?

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to Lilian15

Lilian15,

Nothing to do with a new website. The existing website has been hacked :(

humanbean profile image
humanbean

If you google Thyroid UK the link that comes up is always

thyroiduk.org.uk/

Normally when you click on that link it re-directs you to this page :

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/

Obviously MrHax has prevented that re-direction from taking place.

But if you click on the second link I gave it goes to the normal home page.

AiryFairie profile image
AiryFairie in reply to humanbean

The second link works for me - thanks!

Dreamer12,

Try thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index....

Lilian15 profile image
Lilian15 in reply to Clutter

Doesn't do it for me.

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to Lilian15

Nor me, that link now gives me a 404, so it seems as if the site has fallen over completely now!

Hillwoman profile image
Hillwoman in reply to RedApple

I'm also getting the 404.

Is anyone having problems with the App? Since I've done a software update the HeathUnlocked app is unavailable

I was hacked a couple of weeks ago when I tried Thyroiduk.org.uk and had just got a new computer. I had to take it to the store and they couldn't access it at all and had to wipe it clean for me.and do the necessary for me to have a computer again.

I have now updated security etc.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to shaws

Did you notify Thyroid UK?

shaws profile image
shawsAdministrator in reply to humanbean

Yes I did.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to shaws

I think we should be telling people not to go to the Thyroid UK site until it has been properly cleaned up and made secure.

shaws profile image
shawsAdministrator in reply to humanbean

I did tell TUK but haven't had a response yet.

shaws profile image
shawsAdministrator in reply to humanbean

When I typed Thyroiduk.org.uk and it came onto computer there was different letters (alphabet) in the line below which struck me as weird so came straight out again.

The next time after several days the same thing happended and took the same action.

Then the third time with new computer nothing showed beneath TUK and I clicked and music full of swear words and 'you have been hacked' was on screen. Shut down immediately and contacted a person who told me to go straight to store.

It would be helpful if anyone seeing a hack when they visit Thyroid UK main website could report it via the feedback form. This should alert the webmaster who can then take action to sort out the problem.

That link plus all the ones above don't work at all for me via my android phone. this only happened other day too, they fixed it and gone again. Not good !

Angel_of_the_North profile image
Angel_of_the_North in reply to RedApple

Not going to work, as it is on the same web site. Emailing webmaster@ or hostmaster@ might work

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to Angel_of_the_North

That's true now, but the site had not fallen over when I posted that link last night :)

Ellismay, You seem to be suggesting that Thyroid UK are not concerned that their website is causing people's computers to be contaminated by malware? And that nothing is going to change on that until the new website goes up?

If so, that is in no way acceptable. If the existing website and hosting cannot be cleaned up and made safe for people to use, then it needs to be taken down completely.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply to RedApple

I totally agree, RedApple.

Anthea55 profile image

Nothing doing at present. I get

'Oh bother! That page seems to be missing (404)'

then redirects with same result.

I can't get any pages in the site - it is not serving HTML just showing directory index. Clutter's link gives a 404

Ellismay,

Perhaps you could re-read RedApple 's post. You haven't been accused of anything and I see nothing hurtful or unkind in the response.
