Hi. Could someone post any papers on the use of T3 challenging that T3 poses a risk of causing arrhythmias and osteporosis and lack of clinical evidence that it works.

Thank you.

Mischa,

There have been two observational studies into long term use of T3 which find no safety issues:

Thank you Clutter. You are a gem! GP's now getting on my case.

Mischa,

Probably because of the cost of Mercury Pharma T3!

More than likely. But I have purchased my own in case of something like this. I won't go quietly without trying to argue my side.

Well, just from my own personal experience, the WRONG dose of T3 can definitely cause heat arrhythmia's. Too low a dose and you are putting a very big strain on all systems in your body just to get through your day, do that for a couple of years and yes your heart will suffer. Too high a dose will push you into a hyper state and you will experience arrhythmia. That is one of the indicators of finding your exact dose of T3 (or any thyroid med for that matter), you keep increasing the dose (slowly) until you feel well, if you get the jitters you back off to the previous dose, if you get palpitations (arrhythmia) you have gone way past the mark. The trick is to get to that critical point and you have to hope that you feel well before you hit the jitters! If you don't get to "feeling great" first, you have to give your heart the advantage, put up with a little bit of inconvenience to save your heart - I have that problem, just one step over the line and my blood pressure goes up and I have to back off.

Sorry, I can't give you any medical references, I didn't need anyone to tell me what I was experiencing and to know that I have to be vigilant. But you are quite right to research this phenomena before you jump in, that's the way to do it.

Sorry for not getting back to you. I think my GP is trying to stop my T3 on the grounds that it is risky. My endo has already reduced my dose from 20mcg to 15mcg. I'm also taking T4 (combo). So not a great deal of T3. My bloods are good.

I merely want to counter their argument for stopping my T3 with some research. They are not saying it is because of the cost which I believe is the real reason. They have written to me saying long term use could potentially lead to problems with the heart and bones. So they are going to get in touch with my endo. It is on his advice that I get it. If he is persuaded then I lose my prescription T3.

Not what you're looking for?
