Went to see GP yesterday for R/v following 1 mth of thyroxine 50mcg, Tsh has come down from 38 to 13 in 1 mth however she did plan to increase dose to 74mcg but then checked my resting pulse and its 130, sent me for ECG and I now have 24 hour Heart rate monitor

Has anyone else had this?

Richard123,

Yes, a 24hr monitor enables measurement of heart beat and waves while you are at work, rest and play.

It's very likely that your heart rate is fast because you are under medicated on 50mcg and increasing to 75mcg will be helpful.

GP is to nervous to increase due to heart rate! Returning heart monitor now and was told if they see an urgent issue they will call within 48hrs. Almost hoping they call as the lightheadedness is awful

Richard123,

My heart rate slowed and palpitations and ectopic beats calmed down once I was on the rights meds and dose.

Based on my personal experience I would agree with Clutter with respect to your dose being too low. Low ferritin (iron stores) can cause a fast heart rate too.

Unfortunately doctors believe a fast heart rate is always caused by hyperthyroidism or over-medication of thyroid meds (if the patient is known to have a thyroid problem). They don't seem to grasp that low T3 can cause a fast heart rate too. :(

Got results yes fast heart but symptoms thought to be due to high blood pressure undiagnosed.... Hope now GP will up the dose. Would do it myself but a bit nervous after all this

Yes - I had higher pulse on levothyroxine. It could be that you have a sensitivity to something in levothyroxine (fillers/binders). I was in and out of A&E quite often but even though I had a high pulse my heart wasn't the problem.
